MY REVIEW

Welcome to my stop on The Lie She Told by Catherine Yaffe and hosted by Rachel’s Random Resources.

I’m a big fan of strong female characters, but Kate does not measure up. She is selfish and clueless which left a bad taste in my mouth considering she was married to a narcissistic abuser who was friends with her current love interest. As the saying goes, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The supporting characters are what made the story for me. Kate’s friend and cafe owner, Jack, would do anything for Kate and Kate’s son, Joe. Jack’s persistence to find the truth about Ryan is the mark of a true friend. Kate’s sister, Fiona, is also a good addition and seems to carry the common sense in the family. Ryan, the antagonist, is an evil and manipulative man who has no compassion or conscience and gets what he deserves.

The mystery and suspense are enthralling and the story builds to a predictable, but effective ending revealing long-held secrets and giving Kate a new outlook on life.

If you like fast-paced psychological thrillers with an unsettling plotline and believable characters, give this debut novel a try.

Catherine Yaffe is a former freelance journalist, magazine editor and digital marketing agency owner. Catherine has previously written non-fiction books on Digital Marketing before following her passion for writing crime novels full time.
