MY REVIEW
When a half-human, half-fae outcast is sent from Earth to The Realm to prove her magic, she is in danger for not knowing her place as a Mage.
Billie is a rebel, a misfit, and a loyal friend, but what has it gotten her? Scorn, ridicule, and shame. She’s always thought her dream to attend the Alpha Academy was just that…a dream. But when her magic on Earth was revealed by being bullied, the Union Enforcement Agency (UEA) allowed her into The Realm to attend school. Unfortunately, bullying and distrust continue, but it’s a much deadlier game.
I missed reading a magical YA fantasy filled with Fae, Sorcerers, Witches, Elves, Wizards, and Warriors. The rivalries among the other-worldly species are volatile and dangerous, and Billie puts herself right in the middle despite no one deserving or wanting her help. Billie’s friend and tutor, Lucian, a Sorcerer, is supportive and encouraging at first until something about her magic is revealed. Then she is unfairly left alone again and treated like a social pariah with warnings to not give them reasons to fear her. But Billie is headstrong and determined to go out with a bang.
I love underdogs and Billie is one of those strong characters who deserves to validate her place in The Realm. Regrettably, the ending is a cliffhanger so I will have to wait for the next book to see what happens.
I recommend this captivating YA fantasy to those who love to discover magical secrets and enchanting characters.
