Dragon’s Baby (Red Planet Dragons Of Tajss #1) by Miranda Martin and Juno Wells

ABOUT THE BOOK

Calista is happy with her life of scientific research. She has no need for a man, she has her books, her friends, and her work. Things are fine until her ship is attacked by space pirates and crash lands on a desert planet with heat so intense she and her friends can’t survive without help.

Ladon is a Zmaj warrior resigned to a life alone, who only desires to protect his treasures. His hopes for a mate faded long ago, yet when he meets Calista something stirs. It takes no more than one look to know that she belongs to him. He’s been alone for so long but she is the ultimate treasure and he will protect her.

Now there’s only the small problem of her living long enough to understand.

A devastated planet, a mysterious history, space pirates, and threats environmental and alien beset them on all sides. The sexy Zmaj warrior will have to battle the planet’s ultimate threat in an epic effort to obtain the one thing he knows Calista needs to survive. Then maybe they can begin to come to terms with the feelings they create in each other.

But will the other humans accept this huge and alien looking dragon warrior? Or will they find him just as big a threat as the rest of the red planet? The future of both their races depends on it.

MY REVIEW

It’s been a while since I have read a science fiction romance. There is nothing more interesting than finding out how an author creates ways an alien and human can communicate and fall in love. In this case, Calista is a nerdy botanist who is kidnapped by Lodan, a dragon-man and Zmaj warrior, after she and other expeditionists crash land on a hostile planet.

Calista is a fearless fighter when her ship is taken over by pirates and when they are stranded on an unknown planet, as a botanist she needs to find a food supply for them to survive. She is saved from heat exhaustion by Lodan, a sexy dragon-man who sees her as his treasure. Lodan is very sweet to her, but he is very alpha at the same time when he protects her from several strange creatures on the planet.

In addition to the romantic aspect of the story, Calista learns from Lodan that everyone’s fate is based on a life-saving plant housed in a cave guarded by evil giant worms. However, if the stranded humans eat the plant, they will have to make a fateful choice.

Told in Calista’s and Lodan’s POVs, the story moves along quickly with language barriers at first and a lot of sexual chemistry (not to mention Lodan’s interesting anatomy).  The alien/human aspect is okay though I often wondered what Lodan saw in Calista with her constant prattling other than she’s the first female he’d seen in years.

This scifi romance with action and adventure and hot sex scenes is an interesting change of pace from my more recent reviews.  If you enjoy a bit of alien erotica and alien fight scenes, give this book a try.  Also, it ends in a cliffhanger. Sigh!

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

MIRANDA MARTIN

I’m the most fortunate girl in the world. I found my soul-mate in James Horton. We do everything together including work, play, and raising our kids.

When we started our author career, James did the writing while I did the covers and editing. Every story, though, was really a combination of our work. We’ve always brainstormed together, been the sounding board for each other, and made suggestions on how to make our books better.

Then I had the idea for Tajss and a series of books so I decided to write too. Our work habits didn’t change though, James’ hands are all over my books just as mine were all over his. While we’ve always worked this way, we’ve never co-written or credited each other on our books.

The Gladiators of Krix series, set in the Tajss universe, is co-written. The idea for this story started with James and long-time readers will recognize the setting.

We’ve loved writing together and hope you continue to enjoy the stories we’re weaving. It’s a lot of fun to bounce the story back and forth and we plan to stay a husband and wife writing team going forward.

JUNO WELLS

Juno Wells grew up on Florida’s Space Coast, watching the shuttles take off from Cape Canaveral. When she hit college, her childhood fantasies about space travel turned highly romantic. Now her mind reels with space adventures of fantastic alien lords in distant galaxies, and the earth women they love.

Wells’ stories explore the complex, sensual relationships between inhabitants of different star systems. There are always happy endings just as there is always a new world to explore.

Her work is exclusive to Amazon, so read as much as you like with Kindle Unlimited.
