ABOUT THE BOOK

I was a beauty, a stray orphan until the beast took me as his hostage.

Once upon a time…

A Don by the name of Vlad Vitalli ruled New York. He’s a mafia man. The leader of one of the ruling families, La Cosa Nostra. He’s a monster. A trained killer and a cold-blooded murderer. Tall, mysterious, with icy gray eyes, and he rarely smiles. His smile was made to fool any girl. He’s ruthless, cold, dangerous, and wants to kill me.

I was the wrong person at the wrong time.
Just an innocent at the masquerade ball. The mafia has rules: no witnesses left behind. To save my life, I made a deal with the beast. I handed myself to the cruelest man in the kingdom.

For him, It was supposed to be an easy kill. I’m an orphan raised in poverty. No one would have missed me. Just as the Don Vlad was about to order the hit, I threw off my masquerade mask, revealing my face, and offered myself to him. One look and I was doomed. He took me as his hostage. His captive. He didn’t know by taking me, Dahlia Hadid, he sealed his own fate.

Welcome to New York’s Underworld.
Loosely based on the fairytale.

MY REVIEW

Time to play.  But there is no winner at this game. This beauty and the beast story does not turn out like the fairytale.

Dahlia Hadid is fearless, reckless, and has a big secret. Her life will not be the same after meeting Don Vladimir Vitalli. Expecting the worst from a killer, a drug dealer, and a human trafficker, she is taken aback by the humanity Vlad shows toward her. He killed for her. But she is his captive. His hostage. She cannot fall for a beast like him. He will ruin her.

Vlad Vitalli lets no one in. He trusts no one. Being Don is not a choice. It is a duty. He was born into this life and has to walk carefully to make changes. His narcissistic and interfering father, Enzo, is a problem especially when it comes to Dahlia. She is Vlad’s and he doesn’t share. He has fallen for a beauty so cruel.

The chemistry is strong between these two lonely people. But Vlad is not the typical alpha male I expected. He is a Don who hates his duties and at first seems a little whipped by his controlling narcissistic father until his father betrays him and gets exactly what he deserves. It’s his attraction to Dahlia that gets him into trouble. Everyone wants a piece of her. As for Dahlia, she is careless with her words and formidable in a fight. Her past has given her strength and courage, but she is unprepared for what Vlad unleashes in her.

I enjoyed this version of beauty and the beast and I have to admit I didn’t see the shocking ending coming. It is going to be interesting to find out how their story continues in the series. Therefore, I recommend this dark fairytale romance with complex characters, harsh situations, forbidden love, and an unpredictable cliffhanger ending.

Thank you again to Ms. Khan for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
