MY REVIEW

Holy cow! I’m exhausted from reading this multi-faceted crime thriller with as many twists and turns as a rollercoaster. It’s a complex whodunit with a surprising and intriguing ending promising more duplicity and excitement to come.

DS Joe Byrne is a loner who has been forced to return to his hometown where his troubled past rears its ugly head. Namely his ex-girlfriend and the secret she has been keeping for fifteen years. In addition, his volatile temper has got him in some hot water at work and he has uncovered corruption within the police force. And if that isn’t enough, a psychopath is threatening to kill him and his family.

I didn’t know how to interpret Joe. He is very intimidating and rough around the edges, but he is still hurting after all these years from how his ex, Lisa, treated him. He makes enemies easily and has no friends. He is a great detective in that he is determined to get his guy, but at what lengths?

Mr. Gorevan has a captivating writing style that is told in multiple voices and transfixed this reader to stay up all night to find out what happened to the victim. I have found another author to add to my favorites this year and look forward to reading how DS Joe Byrne’s fares in his personal and professional life.

I recommend this fast-paced, crime thriller to those who thrive on complex characters, suspense, and an explosive and shocking ending.
