Uncork My Love by Rich Amooi

ABOUT THE BOOK

A sweet romantic comedy set in beautiful Napa Valley!

Ivy needs a miracle and a drink—not necessarily in that order. With a struggling winery, the only hope of keeping her dream alive is snagging a gold medal at the annual wine competition. She’s determined to win, but she can do it without the help of Ted Jacobs, aka Mr. Know-it-All.

Ted wants to catch lightning in a bottle and create the world’s greatest wine, but he’s smart enough to know he can’t do it alone. When he heads to Napa to keep his grandma from ending up in jail (don’t ask), he meets Ivy. She’s as complex and intoxicating as his award-winning cabernet, but as stubborn as the mule next door when she stomps on his offer to collaborate.

Ted knows it’s risky to mix business with pleasure, but if Ivy would only listen, they might just be the toast of the town.

MY REVIEW

I have been a Rich Amooi fan for a few years now. He’s one of my favorite romantic comedy authors who really writes love well and does his research on the subjects he covers. For this one, it’s the art and science of winemaking. Throw in an enemies-to-lovers theme, two conniving matchmaking grannies, and a pop-music-loving, banjo-playing grandpa, and you get a no-holds-barred laughathon that you can’t put down.

Ted and Ivy were perfect for each other—they just didn’t know it yet. Lucky for them, that’s what grandmas are for, to nudge things in the right direction until the stars align.

Ted Jacobs, the owner of an award-winning winery, is about as subtle as a Sherman Tank, and when he starts throwing out unsolicited advice about why Ivy’s winery is struggling, it’s World War III.  Ivy has trust issues and wonders what Ted wants in return for all of the help he is giving her for free. First, he completely revamps her website, then he trims her bush (don’t ask). And then, he’s offering to improve her wine to put her in contention for a wine competition medal. Can someone really be that nice? His Grandma Loretta certainly thinks so.

Ted loves winemaking and is a genius at what he does, so when he offers to help Ivy it’s genuine. He wants to see her succeed even though she is a stubborn Winezilla who happens to be drop-dead gorgeous. Perhaps listening more and talking less will help. Yeah, like that will happen. But she is passionate about winemaking and willing to learn which is sexy in Ted’s book.

Ivy and Ted don’t have a chance with two sly grandmas who put Operation Ivy and Ted into action to get them to fall in love. The lengths they go to are downright hilarious. I love Ted’s charm and honesty as well as his incredible kindness and willingness to help at all costs. In addition, his sense of humor is off the charts. Ivy is loveable and vulnerable as she learns to trust again and open her heart to the unexpected feelings she has for Ted and the heartwarming gift she gives him after their big misunderstanding is precious.

From Ted’s Name that Dame game to the chili pepper dare, this book is a riot of witty banter and blossoming love that is wonderful for all ages. If you need a pick me up that will be sure to make you LOL, give this book a try.

Thank you to Mr. Amooi for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
