Jenn Reinvented (The Sweet Water Circle #2) by Grayson Avery

Jenn Reinvented

ABOUT THE BOOK

Jennifer Colby-Kittler is the boss. They even call her The Jenneral. But married life is hard, even when you call the shots. When the sizzle in her and husband Russ’ romance goes AWOL, Jenn calls in the big guns. They’re going to forge ahead and have a second child whether Russ likes it or not. The only problem is that Russ is leaning toward not.

When the Kittler’s new baby mission doesn’t go according to Jenn’s plan, the tension grows, and a mutiny in their marriage unfolds. Jenn’s sister (the lovable Kait from Project Kaitlyn, book one in the Sweet Water Circle series) and friends intervene, forcing her to explore her inner being by attending yoga classes hosted by a dreamy new instructor. Jenn reluctantly agrees, needing to learn to how to let go of control before a civil war leads to divorce. But when the guru falls for her (desperately wanting to also explore her inner being) and an old flame finds out that Jenn’s marriage is under attack and attempts to plant his flag, Jenn doesn’t know which path to choose.

Can Jenn learn to let go before her life spirals out of control? Should she save her marriage before it’s too late, start over with someone new, or go it alone?

With hysterical antics, witty and humorous dialogue, and a strong character arc, you’ll love the follow-up to Project Kaitlyn. Jenn Reinvented is the second book in the hilarious Sweet Water Circle series, exploring the relationships, life adventures, and personal growth of a small circle of friends, who you’re gonna want to hang out with, which is good, because their stories are ready to be told in the rest of the Sweet Water Circle series!

MY REVIEW

I was excited to read about Jenn’s story after reading Project Kaitlyn last year.  There is nothing worse than watching a marriage fail especially when you keep putting unnecessary pressures on yourself as well as your spouse. Jen is her own worst enemy with her take-charge and controlling nature as she decides to have another baby whether her husband, Russ, wants to or not. But ultimately Russ doesn’t want another child and he wants a divorce. There is just so much Jenneral one can take over ten years and be treated like a child instead of an equal. But to be honest, Russ does act like a goofy man-child sometimes. Needless to say, their story is depressing, but in typical Grayson Avery fashion, there are hysterical moments as well.

Yes, I instantly disliked Jenn at first with her overbearing ways. My God, the woman is a bridezilla without the wedding. Her poor husband Russ is so browbeaten and ridiculed, that he overeats to feel better. I understand Jenn feels unwanted and unloved, but dating other men while she’s still married with a child is a little over the top. Several people give Jenn good advice about letting go of perfection and control, but she doesn’t heed it until she finally hits bottom when it’s almost too late. Let’s just say her hilarious grand gesture leads to a satisfying HEA ending with a lovely glimpse into the future.

There are plenty of amazing secondary characters. Jenn’s sister Kait, is a true advocate for Jenn and Russ’s marriage. Jenn’s friends, Shelly and Taylor are supportive with comic relief when desperately needed. Jenn’s ex-boyfriend Joe is sweet and funny but happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time again. And of course, Jenn and Russ’s son Cooper is a bright kid with the best parts of his mom and dad. They all added so much to this book to make it worth reading.

The author does an excellent job describing the frustration of a marriage gone stale and letting go of controlling everything. I highly recommend this important story about what can go wrong in a loving relationship and getting back to what really matters.

Thank you Grayson Avery for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
