Heartless (Merciless #2) by Willow Winters

ABOUT THE BOOK

At first, his words were harsh and his touch cold.

I didn’t want to be in his presence any more than he wanted me there. I knew he was a dangerous man and he could destroy me if only he wanted to. That’s not what he wanted though.  It’s not what he needed. It’s not what I desired either.

It’s so easy to get lost in the touch of a man who’s powerful and unattainable. A man who wants for nothing … except me. Soft touches and stolen glances made my blood heat and my heart beat in a way I never knew it could.

Yes, it’s easy to fall into a haze of lust and desire. But there’s a reason his reputation is one of a heartless man. And I should have known better.

MY REVIEW

This book continues where Merciless left off. The plan for Carter’s enemy’s daughter is for her to give up control to him, but it appears it has backfired. He thought if he gave her the means to avenge her mother’s death, she would be his completely in body and mind, but she is loyal to her father. The man who almost killed him and his brothers so many years ago. Aria Talvery is “a weakness Carter never intended, but one he refuses to give up”. He will destroy her family. If only she could accept what’s to come.

There is nothing Aria can do to stop Carter from killing her family no matter how much he cares about her. She is ashamed of her relationship with Carter. His whore. His possession. Her feelings for Carter make her a traitor for not fighting.

Carter shows a different side in book 2. He’s gentler with Aria as she deals with the aftermath of the murder of her mother’s rapist and murderer. His obsession with her grows as the war starts between his family and hers. He wants her loyalty and her love, but she doesn’t want to live this way. It’s understandable she doesn’t want to live in a cage with a man who wants to control her and keep her as a possession. She loves how Carter makes her feel and wishes he would grow to care for her, but when it comes down to choosing Carter over her family what will she do? The shocking and frustrating cliffhanger will leave you hangin’.

I was happy to see some more character development with Carter’s brothers, Jase, Daniel, and Declan. It was good to see another woman in the mix as well with Daniel’s woman, Addison, who is officially introduced to Aria as a potential friendship begins.

Yet another alluring and exciting chapter to the Merciless series has captured my attention with magnetic and passionate characters who are on the road to revenge, ruin, and remorse. Book 3 here I come!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I started writing after having my little girl, Evie, December of 2015. All during my pregnancy with her I read. I only wanted to read smut and I read EVERYTHING. I would read a book a day — sometimes two. In January I was staying up late with her and just thinking of all these stories. They came to me constantly. And I finally sat down and just started writing. I always wanted to do it so I figured, why not?

I never thought I would reach this point of success to be honest. It’s insane to me that I have so many fans. And I love each and every one of them for all of their support. I’ll be honest, some days are HARD. I have my two littles (Jax who’s two and a half and Evie who just turned one!) during the day and I write at night. Some days are just simply exhausting and then I hear from a fan and it makes me want to push through and keep writing. And I do. I promise I won’t stop!
