The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady (Talk of the Beau Monde #1) by Virginia Heath

The Viscounts Unconventional Lady

ABOUT THE BOOK

The notorious Viscount and the most gossiped-about lady…

After years as a diplomat in the Napoleonic wars, Lord Eastwood is reluctant to return to London society. His scandalous divorce has made him infamous, not to mention cantankerous! To halt the rumour mill, he should marry a quiet noblewoman – instead it’s bold, vibrant artist, Faith Brookes, who’s caught his attention. They are the least suitable match, so why is he like a moth to a flame…?

MY REVIEW

I can always count on a Virginia Heath romance to give me a strong-willed heroine and an honorable hero and The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady doesn’t disappoint. When an outspoken artist’s apprentice meets a presumably disgraceful and ruthless Viscount, words fly and attraction builds.

Miss Faith Brookes prides herself on her independence and fairness, so perhaps she has misjudged Lord Eastwood by believing the gossip rags. After all, with her unorthodox household of a famous artist and a famous opera singer, and three independent daughters, the Brookes name has been known to appear in the news once in a while. Seeing Piers with his family, especially, his precocious nine-year-old niece, Isobel, makes her think there is more to this handsome and stoic man they call The Beast than she first thought.

The last thing Piers wants to do is sit for a family portrait, but his mother insisted and finds himself intrigued by the beautiful and vibrant artist Miss Faith Brookes who is assisting her famous painter father. Shunned as a social pariah due to his scandalous marriage and divorce, Piers is wary of unconventional women like Miss Brookes, but her intelligence and wit capture his attention to the point that he can’t stop thinking about her.

I love the dynamic between Piers and Faith. Their mutual mistrust of each other and what they represent is an interesting theme to unravel and the author’s clever way of having them rescue each other like knights in shining armor is ideal for their situations. My favorites are when Faith insists that Piers dance with her at his first ball since the scandal and when Piers saves Faith from Lord Rayne’s bad intentions. I am also a fan of their professions: Faith as an upcoming artist and Piers as a multi-lingual treaties negotiator for the government.  The supporting characters such as Faith’s parents and siblings, and especially, Pier’s adorable and dedicated niece, Isobel, are also a wonderful addition to the story.

I recommend this delightful historical romance filled with captivating characters and a riveting plot.

Thank you once again to Ms. Heath for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
