ABOUT THE BOOK
“Purdy presents a beautifully complex array of characters that touch your heart.” –A Bookish Escape
Piper Mishner has spent the last year trying to get over her ex, which is hard to do after he decides to move into the apartment next to hers with his new fiancé. As if she needs the reminder of how painful the breakup was. Not to mention, her job as a greeting card writer is now at risk due to her cynicism about love.
“I’m bored with you and need a change.” The infamous words of Kerrie Holloway’s ex-husband, who doesn’t seem to understand the concept of being an “ex” since he wants her to pretend for their kids and family that they’re still together. While dating others and living in the same house. She gets a job in sales at a greeting card company, and is finally on the way to saving for her own place.
Maude Gilchrist has spent over fifty years married to the same man. A man who, one day, just leaves. No goodbye. No explanation. He was just gone. Bitter and alone, she decides to postpone retirement from the greeting card company. Although writing sappy cards about love is the last thing she wants to do.
Through lunch hour talks, weekend getaways, and drunken brawls, the ladies of All For You Greeting Cards Company help heal one another’s wounds and learn there are more important things in life than having a man. There may be a generational gap, but they all have the “ex-factor” in common. Everyone needs a friend by their side. Someone to talk to, laugh with, complain to, watch your back…and to go to jail with you.
Fans of Ashley Poston, Colleen Hoover, Emily Henry, Christina Lauren, Mia Sheridan, and Kristin Hannah will enjoy “Greeting Cards For Exes” by Rebekah L. Purdy.

1 winner will receive a $10 Amazon Gift Card, International. Ends March 8th, midnight EST.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
For the readers: can you tell us a little bit about your book and the characters? So, Greeting Cards for Exes is about three women who work together at a greeting card company. They come from different generations (Piper is in her twenties, Kerrie is in her forties, and Maude is in her seventies) and they’re all dealing with breakups, while trying to design sappy greeting cards. Even though they’ve each experienced something different within the how or why they now have exes, they connect within one another and become close friends. I love that they become a sort of family to one another as they try to navigate being single and how they find different ways to support one another (even if it means getting into a bar brawl).
What are you working on now? I’m actually working on another adult book. It’s a Rom/com that I’m super excited about diving further into. Greeting Cards for Exes is my first adult book, so I was kind of surprised that I had another adult book idea, since in the past I wrote only YA.
Were any of the characters in the book inspired by people from your real life? Honestly, I feel like the pieces of each character kind of encapsulate either people in my life to some degree or at least people I’ve encountered at some point. Not like every aspect of the character, but sometimes you can draw certain mannerisms or pieces of overheard conversations into a character you’re developing.
Who was your favorite character to write? What about your least favorite? Oh gosh, this is hard as I feel like I loved writing all three of my female leads. Each brought something very different to the table and they’ve got some really funny scenes. I think too, why I loved Piper, Kerrie, and Maude is that they did come from different generations and so they view things so differently from one another. Probably my least favorite characters to write, were the exes, especially Piper and Kerrie’s exes and their relationships ended in not good ways.
What is your favorite passage/scene in your book? One of my favorite scenes in the book is actually one of Kerrie’s. She’s a working mom and her mornings are crazy as she’s trying to get the kids ready for school, but also get her own things ready and get everyone out the door on time. She used to be a stay at home mom, but after the divorce she had to work again. But in this particular scene, her daughter is about ready to have a meltdown because she forgot her show-and-tell item for school. So, Kerrie tells her to look through purse for something. Of course, her daughter finds an inappropriate item and takes it out and then her kids start fighting over it, all the while Kerrie is trying to drive. You’ll know the exact scene when you read it. But I remember laughing so hard while writing it and then even during edits, I was laughing.
What kind of research did you have to do for the story? I’ve been to Chicago a few times as my oldest daughter went to school there and I used to drive through there coming home when I lived out of state in the military. But I had to dig into how some of the city was set up and the types of luxury apartments they had there with views of Lake Michigan. I also had to do some medical research, which thankfully my sister works in the medical field so I spent a lot of time asking her questions about certain injuries/illnesses etc.
