MY REVIEW

Welcome to my spot on the 5-day Mini Blog Blitz for The Warrior’s Innocent Captive, book 3 in The House of Leofric series. I have followed the Leofrics in their sad journey from rags to riches with Sir Braedon Leofric, The Beast in The Warrior Knight and the Widow and with Katherine Leofric in Under the Warriors Protection so I was thrilled to finally hear Linota’s story.

Erik Ward has many secrets in his life and he has made a deal with the devil to betray his friend and liege, Jarin, Earl of Borwyn. His mission is clear. He will fulfill a promise he made to his sister. But he never expected the beautiful and innocent Linota Leofric would be made a pawn in his misdeeds. If she found out the truth she would hate him. In the meantime, he would protect her with his life and deal with the consequences later.

Linota Leofric is finally free of her prison of a home. Away from her hateful mother. At her sister, Katherine’s behest, Linota agrees to try and engage with the serious and stoic Earl of Borwyn so she might get a proposal of marriage, but she prefers the company of the attentive and jovial Erik Ward, the Earl’s steward, instead. Though she hopes to be more than friends with Erik, she realizes his loyalty to the Earl of Borwyn is first and foremost and her future has been chosen for her.

Erik and Linota’s lives have not been easy, but the more they are in each other’s company, the more their attraction grows. It is heartbreaking to see Erik’s devastation of finding out the woman he loved from afar is to be offered to his best friend in marriage. He is in turmoil making choices where lives depend on him and keeping secrets that could ruin him.  In Linota’s eyes Erik’s lies are unforgivable, but with her sister-in-law, Ellena’s, advice and Linota’s love for Erik, she asks him for the truth resulting in the completion of his mission and a HEA.

I have to say that Linota’s story is my least favorite of the trilogy. There were gaps of time that were missing and the story just seemed rushed in spots. I feel it helped that I had read the previous books in order to understand what was going on so I suggest the books be read in order.

If you enjoy historical romances filled with secrets, intrigue, and flawed characters, give this one a try.

Thank you to Ms. Matthews for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
