ABOUT THE BOOK
His house. Her rules. But who’s in charge?
Pippa Munro had everything planned for her perfect wedding. What she did not have planned, was for her boyfriend to break up with her. Or sell her beloved farm. So instead of being blissfully engaged, Pippa finds herself jobless, homeless and loveless. Things couldn’t be going better…
Wolfie Squires needs someone to look after his family’s ancient house. He’s too busy with his hot shot city job to deal with a country manor several hundred miles away.
The perfect solution? Find someone to house sit.
The less-than-perfect candidate? Pippa Munro.
Pippa is more comfortable working on a farm than dusting a chandelier, and definitely not the ideal choice for the job.
As tempers fray, ideas clash, and secrets are spilled, Pippa and Wolfie might realise they have the same ambitions for the house, if only they could stop arguing long enough to find out…
MY REVIEW
I always love a good light-hearted British romance and this one has the right amount of sweet and spicy in it. Surrounded by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, a responsible and trusting woman dedicated her life to the man she loved until he abandoned her and left her homeless and desperate for a job.
Pippa loves her small town and plans to remain there the rest of life. But then her manipulative and selfish ex-boyfriend Alex of 10+ years betrays her and moves away. Pippa’s salvation comes from a job as a house sitter at Squires Manor owned by Wolfie Squires, a grumpy and complicated man who is hard to navigate with his mood swings.
Watching the persistent Pippa trying to figure out the very private and perplexing Wolfie is the best part of the book. Though some readers dislike stories with one character’s point of view, I like them. I guess I like solving puzzles and Pippa is one smart cookie as she slowly uncovers Wolfie’s dark secrets and tragic past.
I like the sadness connection between the neglected estate and the conflicted characters. The more Pippa improves the appearance of the house and gardens, the happier and more confidant she becomes leading her to speak her mind and share her feelings with Wolfie. In turn, Wolfie learns to trust the feisty and outspoken Pippa and reveals his kinder, thoughtful side. The chemistry is sexy and strong between Pippa and Wolfie and gives the sweet romance a little kick for me.
The supporting characters are a welcome addition to the story from Pippa’s hilarious friends and family to the next door neighbors, Todd, Patrick, and Juniper the cute and curious pig.
Overall, I enjoyed this charming enemies-to-lovers romance filled with laughter, adventure, and love between too opposites.
Thank you to Ms. Drummond for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
