My Dark Desire (Dark Prince Road #2) by L.J. Shen & Parker S. Huntington

ABOUT THE BOOK

From Wall Street Journal bestsellers Parker S. Huntington and L.J. Shen comes a tantalizing forbidden romance between a broken Prince Charming and a disgraced Cinderella.

The task was simple. Sneak into Potomac’s most heavily guarded manor. Steal back my pendant. Slip out.

Problem number one? America’s most unattainable bachelor caught me.

Problem number two? He decided to keep me. As the help.

Zachary Sun’s winter may be the coldest I’ve ever felt, but he makes my skin burn. Reserved, calculated, and savagely cruel, he thrives on the weaknesses of others. Little does he know, he just met his match.

He may be American royalty. But this peasant will rise to become Queen.

MY REVIEW

I love complex and intriguing characters with an original plot and my favorite authors have given me that once again. A hot, controlled, Asian alpha hero. Yes, please!

Told in dual points of view, this dark, twisted, and very funny romance is just what I needed during a drab rainy afternoon. The book took me on a journey from the first bizarre Cinderellaesque encounter where the maid lost an ugly beat-up sneaker, to their long-awaited first agonizing and miraculous touch. The love-hate theme that runs throughout the book is truly addicting.

I did not get along well with humans. I got along even worse with thieves.

Billionaire Zachary Sun is a character that is all shades of damaged. He hasn’t touched a human in 20 years and is a virgin at 33 years old. His character is so original and tragic, and seeing him come alive when the maid challenges his every move is so fun to watch. His jealousy is savage, and though he’s delusional thinking he can use her to fix him, his cruelty knows no bounds when he gets closer and closer to marrying another woman to appease his mother and honor his vow to his dad.

Could I sign away my soul to a monster in Armani?

Farrow Ballantine is a servant in her own home. Her step-monster and her stepsisters are the bane of her existence as they bully and belittle her and Zach makes her an offer she literally can’t refuse to get her vengeance. However, the more she gets to know him, the more she sees the human behind the robot and her lonely heart is threatened beyond her control. I found it perfect that Farrow is an Olympic fencer in a respectable combat sport. Her agility and discipline aid her in outsmarting Zach both physically and mentally. She is also very attuned to Zach’s phobias and helps him overcome them in very sexy ways. Of course, Farrow’s lonely heart is unexpectedly drawn to Zach, only to be shattered by his actions. However, instead of succumbing to despair, Farrow exhibits tremendous strength and self-respect. I was so proud that she takes a stand, giving Zach an ultimatum to reflect on his behavior and make amends. Let’s just say, Zach carries out one of the best, courageous, and hilarious grand gestures ever!

Shen and Huntington have done an excellent job of creating characters that are both flawed and relatable. The love story that unfolds between Zachary and Farrow is not your typical fairy tale romance. It is raw, gritty, and at times, uncomfortable. But it is also beautiful, funny, heartwarming, and ultimately, satisfying.

I was fortunate to read book one in the series and I was delighted to be reunited with Romeo, Dallas, Oliver and Frankie. The text messages between the men are extremely funny with Oliver’s outrageous sexual innuendos and Romeo’s whipped marital advice. Dallas’ unapologetic honesty and unwavering support made her a godsend to Farrow, who found solace in their unlikely friendship.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves complex quirky characters, fabulous banter, and a love story that is anything but conventional. My favorite authors have once again created a world that is both captivating and thought-provoking and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for Oliver and Frankie.

Thank you to Ms. Shen and Ms. Huntington for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
