MY REVIEW
You may know by now that I’m not a big fan of the “third-act breakup” and this one has a doozy that did not conclude as well as I wanted it to.
Hailee is a popular escort at the intriguing club called Eden. Her life is complex, shaped by her tumultuous relationship with her mom and stepdad, as well as her selfless sacrifices for her sister. Honestly, these elements make Hailee’s character feel real and relatable. You can’t help but root for her as she navigates the murky waters of her situation.
Things take a turn when Hailee accepts Daemon’s contract to be his submissive for a year. It’s a bold move to escape her stepfather’s annoying matchmaking, but the stakes are high. Daemon is all about that business life with his cold, professional demeanor in the office and creates an engaging contrast to his commanding and caring presence with Hailee at home.
The spice is off the charts between these two. I loved how they balanced each other amidst all the craziness. But here’s my issue: when feelings started surfacing, their communication went downhill, fast. I was genuinely disappointed with some of the choices they made, particularly the nasty name-calling that unfolded. Like, seriously guys? That felt so out of character and unnecessary! Hailee’s remorse shone through beautifully, but Daemon’s apologies didn’t strike the right chord for me. Honestly, the dude needed to do a lot more groveling!
Despite the setbacks, I can’t deny that this was a fast-paced read loaded with tangled emotions and steamy scenes. The characters were engaging enough to keep me turning the pages, even when I was shaking my head at their choices.
