ABOUT THE BOOK
Recently separated Demelza is nearing 50 and learning to live life again away from her problematic ex. The menopause is causing havoc with her hormones and after years of frustration she finds herself attracted to a much younger man.
28 year old wanna be comedian Stephen Shaw knows he’s attractive. He’s worked hard on his talent and physique but he never imagined being instantly smitten by a woman old enough to be his mother.
After an almost one night stand, Stephen starts work as Demelza’s new PA and the sparks continue to fly.
When Demelza’s ex comes back on the scene, she has to stand her ground and find the strength to fight for what she believes in.
Stephen shows Demelza what it’s like to have a man that’s kind, considerate and confident in life and also in the bedroom.
Will their relationship turn into something lasting or is Stephen just a Shaw thing?
MY REVIEW
I absolutely love a good reverse age gap story, especially when it’s well thought out and feels realistic, and Ms. Mounts did a good job. If you enjoy stories that turn up the heat, you should definitely check this one out.
The story is told from dual points of view, which is okay. It provides a well-rounded perspective on their relationship (and, let’s face it, their steamy moments!). That said, I found myself wishing the plot would pick up speed perhaps leaving out the same scene being replayed between the protagonists. It got a little repetitive now and then.
As for the plot, while it’s somewhat predictable, there’s something comforting about that. Both characters are vulnerable and navigating a relationship that’s new and different for them. You kind of know what to expect, and honestly, it’s just fun enough to keep you turning the pages. Sometimes, you really just want that cozy, familiar vibe in a romance.
One thing I struggled with was Stephen’s career choice. He’s a personal assistant during the day and a stand-up comic at night. I like comedians, but I didn’t quite see it as a stable and sustainable job for the leading man. It just didn’t seem to fit my idea of a dreamy character.
Despite these minor hiccups, I can’t deny that it was a quick, fun read especially if you’re into spicy romances. So, if you’re in the mood for something light yet tantalizing, you might want to give this book a try.
Thank you to Ms. Mounts for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
