Tainted (A Jesse Stone Case File #1) by Maggie M.S. Burleson

ABOUT THE BOOK

Homicide detective Jesse Stone is rather comfortable in her career, despite being regulated to a basement. However, when Jesse is forced to work with a new investigative team of vampires and learns that Magic exists, her entire past is called into question.

MY REVIEW

In the same way that serial killers have signatures, so do vampires,” Eddie explained, “Signatures that allow us to help catch the vampires. We’re hoping that access to your investigations will allow us to find clues as to who might be behind these attacks and help us put a stop to them.”

An engaging urban fantasy with a fearless female detective and an intriguing vampire investigator, who, along with their loyal teams, are hunting down the murderers of four young women. However, the case is hitting close to home for both of them.

I loved this gripping story pairing vampires and humans to bring down a sinister vampire drug lord and serial killer. Yes, Jesse, is tough and unlikable at first, but she is entitled to be angry with a devastating past of losing her mother at a young age, watching her beloved father be implicated in a police scandal then later committing suicide, and being raped in college. Nate seems arrogant at first, but he has a lot of baggage himself when he reveals the night he was turned and his family was tortured in front of his eyes.

If you like urban fantasy with vampire raves, vampire drug lords, and corrupt human cops, give this one a try.  Can’t wait for the next book in the series! Recommend highly.

Thank you to Ms. Burleson for giving me the opportunity to review this book with no expectation of a positive review.
