Worth Fighting For (The AJ Williams Series Book 2) by Lasairiona McMaster

Worth Fighting For

ABOUT THE BOOK

Relationships are complicated. Long distance ones, even more so. When AJ Williams met Lisa Millar online through mutual friends, he wasn’t prepared to fall in love with the woman of his dreams. In a heart-wrenching story of love attempting to transcend miles, AJ finds himself married, fighting a battle against his Bipolar Disorder and on the wrong side of the Atlantic from the woman he truly loves. Will their love conquer all? Or will the intricacies of a relationship woven across the Atlantic be too much to take and tear them apart once and for all?

MY REVIEW

Though I have read Lisa’s version of events, I felt it was fair to read AJ’s part as well.  This is book 2 of AJ’s story and it really delves into AJ’s Bi-polar Disorder and the depression and anxiety he was going through during his relationship with Lisa across the pond.

AJ Williams is a guitar-playing, hockey player in Alabama and he has a great support system at home.  His best friend, Jeremy, his sister, Ana, and his mom and dad have been there for him for the best and worst of times. However, his bad choices are eating him alive and he is keeping secrets from his Irish girlfriend, Lisa.. again. She is just getting over the fact that he married his friend, Britt, at the spur of the moment to get her green card. He loves Lisa, not Britt, but he doesn’t want Lisa to know about his disorder. So, off his meds, he ghosts her for about two weeks and makes it worse. When he finally clears up that misunderstanding, he blunders again and chooses Britt over Lisa once again. This is a serious faux pas when Lisa seriously needs him after been brutally attacked in Ireland.  In the wise words of his friend, Jeremy, “You need to get your shit together with her, man.”  How much can a girl take? Will he be able to make it right?

As always, I love Ms. McMaster’s writing and her wonderful characters.  AJ is a kind soul but he is so confused. He loves Lisa desperately, but he’s made a mess out of things that catch up to him when she goes back to Ireland. The way the author writes his thoughts in italics is so telling of how AJ is really feeling and cannot speak out loud.  Lisa is a very forgiving person when it comes to AJ, but she loves him just as much as he loves her and one just keeps on rooting for both of them.  And of course, as I have said before, Jeremy is my hero in this series and is the best friend “worth his weight in gold” for both AJ and Lisa. And his sense of humor is hilarious!

This story made me laugh, cry, and get angry all over again though I had read it from Lisa’s perspective in her series. To me, if a writer can get a reaction from me of any kind, that’s good writing.  And if you can do it, after I know what’s coming, that’s brilliant.

If you like books about long-distance romance filled with angst, laughter, sorrow, and surprises, give this book a try. I do suggest you read the series in order to get the best perspective.

Thank you again to Ms. McMaster for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lasairiona McMaster grew up dreaming of an exciting life abroad, and, after graduating from Queens University, Belfast, that is exactly what she did – with her then-boyfriend, now husband of almost ten years. Having recently repatriated to Northern Ireland after a decade abroad spanned over two countries (seven and a half years in America and eighteen months in India), she now finds herself ‘home’, with itchy feet and dreams of her next expatriation. With a penchant for both traveling and writing, she started a blog during her first relocation to Houston, Texas and, since repatriating to Northern Ireland, has decided to do as everyone has been telling her to do for years, and finally pen a book (or two) and get published while she tries to adjust to the people and place she left ten years ago, where nothing looks the same as it did when she left.
