MY REVIEW
When a woman prefers to hide her identity as part of one of the richest families in the country and moves across the country to go to school, she falls in love with a man who deceives her and her family which results in them blaming and disowning her.
Charlotte certainly grows up in a big hurry after meeting the narcissistic David Torres who betrays her and her wealthy family and disappears out of their lives. After her family blames Charlotte for David’s despicable behavior and disowns her, I was astonished and angry right along with her. Talk about kicking someone when their down. Watching her grow into a strong young woman and loving mother after being cut off from her family is refreshing to see.
Regretting her role in driving her daughter away, Charlotte’s mother Julia finally steps up and cleverly concocts a well-defined plan of action to reunite her family. The genius plan is to get payback for David’s double-cross. And let’s just say… revenge is sweet.
As for Charlotte’s dad, Henry, I think he is a pompous ass and doesn’t deserve Charlotte’s forgiveness. It would take a cold day in hell before I forgave that man. And Charlotte’s brother, Charles, and sister, Carey, they have a lot to apologize for with their past behavior toward Charlotte.
The true light in this story is the handsome and intelligent P.I. Alex Macchi who Julia hires to find David. His kindness and patience with Charlotte are delightful and he gives her the support she has been looking for all her life.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this gem of a story filled with wealth, betrayal, thievery, love, and forgiveness. If you enjoy a bit of gratifying retaliation on the vilest of creatures, give this book a try.
Thank you to Ms. Lewis for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
