Chasing Romeo (Soul Mates in Romeo #1) by Sarah Ready

ABOUT THE BOOK

Chloe Daniels is a starry-eyed romantic who believes in true love, soul mates, and happily ever afters. So when a psychic predicts the identity of her soul mate Chloe will do anything to find him.

But there’s a tiny problem.

Chloe’s soul mate is 1 of 7 men, spread across the U.S. and she has only one week to reach him.

Out of desperation, she hires Nick O’Shea, a cynical private investigator who thinks soul mates, love and happily ever afters are a load of crap.

Chloe and Nick have nothing in common. She wants her soul mate. He wants to get paid.

But on their crazy, true love chasing road trip across the U.S. Nick starts to wonder if maybe he was wrong about love, and Chloe starts to wonder if she was wrong about the identity of her Romeo.

Soon, Chloe will have to choose between her soul mate and the man she hired to find him.

MY REVIEW

What’s not to love about this hilarious and charming romantic comedy? The laughs are many, my friends!!

When a soulmate psychic cons a love cynic to accompany a hopeless romantic across the country to find her soulmate within a week, what could go wrong? Plenty!!!

In the past, no man has loved me for me, they’ve always left, but a soul mate, no matter your quirks, they stay. They love you. They don’t hurt you and they don’t leave.

Chloe Daniel is a successful card illustrator and designer and a diehard romantic. After all, she grew up in Romeo, New York, Official Town of Love, and her Great Aunt Erma is the town’s official Soul Mate Psychic. Everybody loves Chloe with her Disney-like beauty, warmth, and confidence, but Chloe feels like a fraud. On the inside, she’s unhappy and doesn’t trust herself anymore. Every man she thought was her soulmate has not loved her enough. That’s why she is going to take up Erma’s proposition to find her soulmate (the first person she kissed at summer camp). The only drawback is her ex-boyfriend, Nick O’Shea, love cynic extraordinaire who she has not seen in 10 years, has agreed to partner her on her mission.

Why do I feel like I’m leading a lamb to the slaughter? But if I don’t go along, she’ll do it by herself, and trouble follows her like a teenager with his first crush. I should know.

Nick O’Shea somehow forgot how obsessed Romeo, New York, was with love. All he wanted to do is get his private investigations business up and running and building a cabin in the woods to be left alone. But he has never said no to Erma with her sharp intellect and knowing gaze, and her promised gift if he found Chloe’s soulmate was his dream come through. Now he just has to get past his feelings for Chloe.

The chemistry is strong between Nick and Chloe as they battle their attraction while on a wild goose chase to find Chloe’s perfect man out of seven potential candidates including a cat enthusiast, a criminal, a proctologist with large fingers, a furry thief, an ax-wielding lumberjack, a paranoid, monster truck-driving nerd, and the real deal.  My favorite incidents are Nick and the cat and Nick and the proctologist nicknamed The Cucumber. Serious giggling and snorting stuff!!! I must say after all he goes through to make Chloe happy, Nick is a good sport as he takes everything in stride. In my opinion, his moments of undignified humiliation are the big grand gestures that Chloe wants from her soulmate. As for Chloe, she’s a bit dense when it comes to the whole soulmate thing when she clearly has a man who has loved her for years right next to her the whole time. I understand her insecurities about her choices, but when he finally opens up to her and expresses his feelings, she should have just shut the whole thing down. Ah, love…it makes us do some weird shit. Yes, Nick does provide Chloe with her grand gesture and there is a HEA ending.

Overall, this is one of my favorite romantic comedies this year. It’s a hysterically funny cross-country ride in Nick’s vintage love car named Shelly meeting outrageous characters in the most memorable ways. I guarantee you will be laughing out loud and cheering for Nick and Chloe.

Thank you to Ms. Ready for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
