The Knight’s Maiden in Disguise by Ella Matthews
ABOUT THE BOOK
Risking her life
To save a knight!
Disguising herself as her late twin brother keeps Avva Carpenter, and her family, safe. Until Sir William Devereux arrives in her town. As the castle’s stable master, Avva can’t avoid the knight—or the desire he instantly stirs in her. He’s everything she never knew a nobleman could be: honest, kind, brave. When danger surrounds them, the only way to help William is to reveal her true identity, but can she trust him enough?
I’ve been a big fan of Ella Matthews for some time now. Her characters are courageous and honorable as they battle love and duty, and her stories are wrought with suspense and danger. The Knight’s Maiden in Disguise is that and more with a young maiden masquerading as a boy to hide from a cruel Baron and his evil minions.
After the senseless and cruel death of her twin brother, Avva Carpenter lives for her two younger brothers and the only family she has left. Under the guise of her dead brother Aven she lives as a stable master by keeping her head down and not calling attention to herself until the handsome Sir William Devereux arrives. Nobility cannot be trusted.
Sir William arrives in Caerden with a mission for the King, but the unusual town appears to have no women and Baron Caerden’s castle is unfortified and missing its ruler. There is something strange going on in the village and the dark and dangerous Baron and his men are hiding something nefarious. And if that isn’t enough, the stable master is a beautiful woman dressed as a man and William can’t stop thinking about her. As he enlists Avva’s help in uncovering a dangerous plot, he endangers her life. Can he keep her safe and still complete his mission? What will happen to her after he is gone?
Avva is a selfless and fearless warrior as she risks her life to help William prevent a massacre though she is really there to make sure William is safe. She will never let him know how she feels for him because nothing can come of it. He is a nobleman and she is a peasant. William is honorable and respectful of Avva as he unsuccessfully tries to curb his desire and complete his mission. He swore to never love anyone and only marry for money to support his sisters. But William and Avva’s instant attraction to each other cannot be ignored as they fight for their lives and their future.
I highly recommend this fast-paced historical romance filled with forbidden desire, danger, secrets, and a HEA ending.
Thank you to Ms. Matthews for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ella Matthews lives and works in beautiful South Wales. When not thinking about handsome heroes she can be found walking along the coast with her husband and their two children (probably still thinking about heroes but at least pretending to be interested in everyone else).
