ABOUT THE BOOK
Shannon Guerin is an ordinary single mother—except for the fact that her ex-husband is the lead singer of a world famous rock band.
Shannon and Jace were childhood sweethearts. They divorced when his drug addiction destroyed their marriage, but that was years ago. Now he’s in recovery and has just come off a yearlong tour. His band are going on hiatus, which means Jace is going to be around a whole lot more for their daughter, Zara. What Shannon doesn’t know is that Jace never stopped loving her and has a secret plan to win her back.
While Shannon has tried to convince herself to move on, she’s never fully gotten over her ex. Jace is determined to prove that he deserves her trust again even though he knows it won’t come easy.
When someone begins impersonating Jace online and scamming his fans, he and Shannon grow closer in their quest to find the culprit. The bond they once shared sparks to life, but old hurts take time to heal. Jace is patient and prepared to make amends for the pain he caused in the past. He will go the distance for the one and only woman who ever captured his heart.
Rhythm is a Heartbeat is a Six of Hearts, a next-generation novel starring Jay and Matilda’s son, Jace. It can be read as a standalone romance.
MY REVIEW
I’ve come to love second-chance romances, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that one of my favorite authors penned this beautiful story set in Ireland about forever love and starting over.
Shannon and Jace have a history that goes way back. They started as neighbors, then became best friends, and eventually took the leap into marriage. Sadly, Jace’s absences on tour and battles with addiction tore them apart, leaving Shannon to navigate life as a single mom to their adorable eight-year-old daughter, Zara. I found Shannon’s resilience inspiring. Raised in a lonely environment with absentee parents, she has become a strong and nurturing mother, and her move near her in-laws for stability speaks volumes about her character.
When Jace returns for a long hiatus from touring, my heart ached for both him and Shannon. I totally get why she is hesitant to trust him again, given the promises he broke in the past. Shannon’s journey is one of vulnerability, and I felt every ounce of her anxiety about Jace’s fame; she’s so private, and it must have been overwhelming to live in the spotlight.
Jace is Shannon’s opposite. He’s wild, outgoing, and talented as well as generous and giving. From the moment he re-enters her life, he is determined to win her back, and I couldn’t help but root for him. The growth he demonstrates by taking responsibility, such as driving Zara to and from school and spending quality time with his family, had me cheering him on. His honesty about wanting to reunite with Shannon truly shows how deeply he cares for both her and Zara.
The story starts with a feeling of longing, where I felt an instant bond with Shannon and Jace. Add in mystery and danger, and it’s like an extra layer with a puzzle piece waiting to be found. It kept me on my toes and made the payoff all the more satisfying.
As supporting characters go, Jace’s dad, Jay, who is an illusionist (cool, right?), is quite the character. He and his wife, Matilda, embody the understanding and supportive in-laws everyone wishes for. In addition, Jace’s bandmates start off siding with Jace after the divorce, but their eventual support for Shannon is rewarding. And, I love the idea of Wine and Letters nights with Shannon and her friends.
L.H. Cosway’s writing is beautiful and descriptive without being over the top. She truly knows how to capture the essence of her characters. Their struggles, hopes, and affectionate interactions feel so real that it’s impossible not to get emotionally invested. It is what makes her stories so addictive for me.
If you’re on the hunt for a heartwarming tale filled with hope, mystery, and unforgettable characters, I cannot recommend this book enough.
Thank you to Ms. Cosway for giving me the opportunity to read the book with no expectation of a positive review.
