ABOUT THE BOOK

We were on the front lines in that world, the mafia world. There was nothing soft or glamorous about it. Who you were before no longer mattered. Names didn’t exist. I joined anyway. I had no other choice because they took my sister. Join. Find her. Try and make it out alive.

Then he won me in a poker game. I hated him instantly, thinking he was like my other bosses before him. He wasn’t. He was worse. He wasn’t just cold. He was dead inside. It didn’t matter that he was gorgeous. He was the most lethal thing I’d ever met. He was also the only person who could keep me alive, if he didn’t kill me himself.

MY REVIEW

I was introduced to Tijan earlier this year and I was thrilled to read another of her books. Raize and “The Girl” are so meant for each other. Their stories are different, but the end game is what matters.

I am not who I was when I started in this world. Things are different. I’m harder. Too many people have been killed in front of me, and it affects me. Every night.

The girl of many names is a weapon all the mafia kings want. She just wanted to find her sister so she chose to enter this fucked up mafia life with the Russians. She paid with her innocence, but she’s still alive because of her “gift”.  Her new boss, Raize, is different. He’s a cold-blooded killer who exploits her skill just like the others until she asks him to stop. Most people in his employ would die for disobedience, but she changes the game for him.

He won her in a poker game. He keeps his team small as he completes deadly missions for his boss. He’s the best at what he does. Constantly on the run. She’s his ticket to completing his missions until one goes very wrong and he notices her. Not as a means for his job, but as a strong woman who is meant to be by his side until death do they part.

The girl is a freakin’ wonder as she learns to follow orders and stay alive in a deadly world that could take her life in an instant. She is constantly struggling to control her emotions because showing weakness will be her death. Her strength and resilience are staggering as she fights for what’s right by challenging and confronting some deadly dudes. Raize is the hot ruthless alpha hero who will kill anyone in his path,  and the author’s description of his transformation into the cold, soulless killer is fascinating. The slow-build romance is only one part of this book as the non-stop action kept me glued to the pages.

The supporting characters are amazing and a great addition to the story. Raize’s team is a great asset. Jake brings laughter. Cavers is the serious one. Abram is a former comrade who doesn’t hesitate to help Raize out when needed. And Raize and his mafia boss Roman have a healthy respect for each other.

I highly recommend this constant motion of exciting twists and turns inside the dark recesses of the mafia and the cartel. In typical Tijan fashion, the characters are badass and the ending is mind-blowing with a grueling and hard-won HEA.
