MY REVIEW

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told is not what I expected. It is a sweet, funny, heartwarming story told by a charming and brave young boy and a reclusive and cowardly man. They are both in love with remarkable females who they are determined to win over and the journey is rife with impenetrable obstacles and intense feelings.

The book is told in first person dual perspectives. Callum is a chatty, honest nine-year-old who has a beautiful story to tell, and Michael Lamb is a brilliant mathematician who is researching toxic masculinity starting at a young age and Callum is his subject. Little did Michael know that Callum was full of amazing and endearing surprises.

Callum tackles life head-on as little boys do, with tenacity and goodness. He teaches the world to face fear and be true to oneself. His love for a lonely little girl is moving and inspiring as he makes her wishes come true with grace, humor, and generosity. In turn, she encourages him to love books and frogs.

Michael’s girlfriend left him because he was a coward and he missed her terribly. With Callum’s help, Michael learns to open himself up to the world which changes his outlook on life. Therefore, finding the courage to be a good friend to Callum and a man deserving of the woman he loves.

This is a meaningful and touching story about love and friendship that made me laugh, cry, and wish I was more like Callum. It reminded me that it’s never too late to focus on your dreams and to don’t judge people because they are different. Pick up this book. It won’t disappoint.
