MY REVIEW
I’ve been reading Deanndra Hall for some time now and how did I miss this series? Better late than never, but considering there are a lot of supporting characters in this book that I assume were in previous books, I suggest starting at the beginning.
Mark Walters is a doctor, widower, and Dominant who is not looking for a permanent relationship. Darcy Ballard is a veterinarian, single mother, and a Dominatrix with a checkered past.
This was a difficult book to review. The main characters are unlikeable as they manipulate each other by questionable means. Mark’s BDSM moves are more extreme and uncomfortable than I’m used to reading and I felt dread for Darcy’s mental health considering she’s a little off to begin with. However, Darcy seems to enjoy it and has an unsavory agenda of her own to win Mark over by any means necessary. All in all, Mark and Darcy are messed up. Mark’s bad choices in his marriage lead to his need for kink to keep his mind off his mistakes. Darcy’s horrible past eats at her with a need to be loved and to come first using sex and scheming to do it. With that, she does something extremely selfish and unthinkable. Does she deserve another chance? Apparently, no one other than Mark thinks so though he doesn’t make it easy for her.
I couldn’t put this book down as it kept me wondering why and hoping everything would end on a happy note. The heat is off the charts and the love story is untidy. Is Darcy and Mark’s story worthy of a happy ending? I’ll let you decide.
