ABOUT THIS BOOK

Even at thirty-seven, with a challenging but rewarding career as a paramedic, Bella Gomez is treated as the baby of the family. It’s made her allergic to anyone meddling, so she chooses to keep mostly to herself. Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop her family from inserting themselves in her life. Nor does it deter the one man she knows she shouldn’t get close to from showing up on her doorstep.

Jasper Greene, an FBI agent with the La Plata County field office, doesn’t even know the meaning of family. His team is his family, which is why–when his boss asks him to keep an eye on his baby sister–Jasper readily complies. Even when the sister in question is a spectacularly developed princess with plenty of attitude.

With a shooter on the loose and corruption running rampant, Bella is a magnet for trouble, and Jasper finds himself with his hands full–in more ways than one. Continue reading “#BlogTour #BookReview: Cabin 12 (Rock Point #2) by Freya Barker @freya_barker @BuoniAmiciPress #romanticsuspense”

#BookReview: Hating The Sheriff: A Climax Falls Short Story by Nina Silver @author_silver @ScerinaElizaNET

BLURB

It all started with a rioting citation, can you believe that?

Scarlett

I hate him.
As if it’s not enough that I recently returned to Climax Falls after years of avoiding my hometown. I keep running in with the local sheriff, who also happens to be my most hated enemy, my high school bully, the man who tortured me throughout my young years, and currently my neighbor. So what’s a curvy girl gonna do when her most hated enemy turns up sexier and cockier than ever and sets fire to her body? Why, she keeps calling him names!

Ace

I hate her.
As if it’s not enough that the bane of my existence, the woman who single handily made it her mission to ruin my younger years, has returned to town haunting all my usual spots. She also had to turn up smoking hot teasing me with her abundant curves – the exact ones I made fun of in high school – and her stubborn feistiness. So what’s a sheriff gonna do when his most hated enemy turns up sexy AF causing a boner harder than titanium? Why, he keeps calling her names! #BookReview: Shooter (Burnout #1) by Dahlia West @DahliaWest13

The photo of the Black Hills National Forest on the cover had caught her eye and she thumbed through it, settling on Rapid City as the closest she could get and still feel anonymous.

Hayley Turner is a young woman with a secret.  Arriving in yet another destination to escape the horror of her past, she meets Chris “Shooter” Sullivan, war hero, biker, landlord, and a man that seems to dislike her.  Should she leave before he finds out?

Shooter Sullivan moved back to Rapid City after the horrors of Iraq to open his custom motorcycle shop.  His life was at an even keel with business and his buddies, when beautiful and lonely Hayley Turner shows up hiding something in her past.  Should he trust her?

This story evoked powerful emotions in me.  It depicts two people who have had devastating things happen to them in the past and who discover their path to peace and happiness in each other.  The way Ms. West draws Hayley’s past out is sensitive and credible and the suspense that follows is intense.  Both characters were well-developed and presented well, and I can’t wait to read about Shooter’s buddies in the rest of the series.

If you like broken heroes and heroines and romantic suspense, I recommend this book.

MY REVIEW

She’d been fourteen when two men in combat fatigues and balaclavas burst into the kitchen where she and her father were enjoying breakfast.  She could have darted for it, threatened them, helped him. But she hesitated. The moment slipped past. They threw a black hood over his head, cuffed him, and dragged him away to be interrogated, tortured, executed and buried in the woods. A single thought haunted her ever since. Had he known they would come?

Book review: Naked in Death by J.D. Robb–Book 1 in Series (9781593558277) Book on CD

The first in the In Death series by J.D. Robb was first published in 1995 and the plot reads like it was taken out of our current headlines.  Set in 2058, the story is about Lieutenant Eve Dallas, New York cop, who is gritty and hard and is fighting for justice for all it’s worth.  What is it worth?

An upscale prostitute Sharon DeBlass has been murdered the 20th century way.  With a hand gun (they use lasers now) and with venomous intent.  Sharon isn’t just any prostitute; she is the granddaughter of Senator DeBlass who thinks he is as moral as they come.  But is he?

Roarke, wealthy entrepreneur extraordinaire, is smart and savvy and is a suspect in the case.  He has an eye for Eve who tries to go by the book, but can he get past her defenses and her past?

I have been meaning to read this series for years and got an opportunity to listen to the book on CD, read by Susan Ericksen.  Ms. Ericksen does a convincing job with each of the characters.  To me, the plot felt mainstream and I didn’t find anything new there, but then the book was written over a decade ago and may have been a new market to some.  The romance between Roarke and Eve was okay to bring depth to Eve’s character, but it wasn’t one of the better romances that I have read.  Let’s hope they get better in the latter books in the series.  The story does contain violence and talks about rape, incest and child abuse, so be prepared for that.

Overall I found the story to be fairly interesting, but not outstanding.  In fact, I guessed the murderer pretty early in the story.  If you like gritty police procedurals with suspense and romance mixed in, this one’s for you.

Book review: Excuse Me, Miss (EMM Series) by Phillip Thomas Duck (Ebook)

Vicki Frost is a fidelity anthropologist which is a fancy name for a private investigator who investigates cheating husbands. She’s very good at her job and has caught many men red-handed, but she has a dilemma. She has fallen for one of them and she is being threatened by more than just the angry wife.

Vicki’s boss, James Boston, has always had Vicki’s back, but he wants more. Can he help her settle the past and save her from current danger?

This is a sexy suspense short fiction novel that has an interesting premise. Mr. Duck has created a strong, but vulnerable, woman who needs to face her past and get on with her future.

Thank you to Mr. Duck for giving me the opportunity to review his book.

Book review: Silent Run by Barbara Freethy (9780451412539)

I couldn’t put this book down! The suspense is awesome and you can cut the tension between “Sarah” and Jake with a knife.

Sarah Tucker has amnesia after being run off the road. Enter a handsome stranger who claims she ran away with their only child. And where IS her child? Sarah’s past is unknown to her, but there is someone trying to kill her.

An excellent book by Barbara Freethy and I can’t wait to read Dylan and Catherine’s story in SILENT FALL.
