MY REVIEW
I was in the mood for a dark bully romance so why not discover a new author as well. At an elite college, a rich angry jock obsesses over a nerdy scholarship student and loses control when what he craves is threatened by dark secrets in his family.
Drew has a dark persona and is very unlikeable at first. His unforgiving pursuit of Maybel made me uncomfortable as he pushed the limits of morality. But as his secrets slowly come to the surface, I saw how his life is falling apart and the only light he sees at the end of the tunnel is Maybel. Too bad he couldn’t protect her from the truth.
Maybel is just trying to get by as she tutors students at school while trying to pay her sick mother’s medical bills. Little did she know she would be thrown into Drew’s shitstorm of a world, fall in love, and watch her world explode with a mind-blowing cliffhanger.
This story was very dark from the beginning and I felt the way they “hooked up” the first time was out of place with the rest of the story. Drew’s decisions are cringeworthy and is someone who should be avoided, but the smart and kind nerdy Maybel didn’t have a choice. Strong FMCs are my favorite and I loved how the push and pull dynamic between them changed as she held her own and stood up to Drew. She sees the vulnerable man behind the wicked mask and calls him out on it.
Drew’s three close friends, Sebastian, Lee, and Aries are the key to saving Drew and Maybel. They’ve been Drew’s support system through thick and thin, and they’ve helped him navigate his sad life. However, they are now worried about Drew’s new fascination with the bookworm, given his father’s disapproval. I can’t wait to read their stories.
I couldn’t put this dark sexy book down with its twists and turns and startling secrets. I’m craving the next book and hate that I have to wait until April. Sigh!
