The book follows the journey of a young woman, Rachel, who falls deeply in love with a Cowboy, Jason. Despite Rachel’s trauma and the obstacles they face, their love for each other grows almost instantly.
However, their story takes a heartbreaking turn when he breaks the young woman’s heart, leaving her devastated and heartbroken. Despite their love for each other, they go their separate ways, leaving behind a painful past. Rachel drifts down a rabbit hole that she has to fight to pull herself out of.
But fate has other plans for them as destiny brings them back together, forcing them to confront their former pain and heartbreak, and to rediscover their love for one another. Through their journey of reconciliation, they come to understand the depth and complexity of their love and the true meaning of forgiveness.
MY REVIEW
I have read my share of true stories with raw and emotional subject matter and this book has that, but the writing is undeveloped and choppy. Â
Rachel is a strong personality molded by emotional trauma. Her tumultuous relationship with Jason is typical adolescent behavior, but her recklessness and irresponsibility frustrated me. Jason seems more mature and is a stable presence with Rachel’s impulsive behavior. However, the lack of depth and insight into Jason’s motivations and inner thoughts made it difficult to understand his character. As the story progresses and Rachel goes to college, the story regresses, bad decisions abound, and I lose interest in what happens to Rachel and Jason.
Ms. Underwood captures teenage love and how it can be exhilarating, overwhelming, and heartbreaking; however, I couldn’t overcome the repetitive dialogue and flat characters.
I wanted to like this book with it’s emotional intensity and poignant storyline, but it falls short due to the underdeveloped characters and unremarkable writing.
