MY REVIEW
This book is my first dark paranormal mafia romance that slowly builds to a suspenseful ending and creates emotions that will tug at your heartstrings. Anna and Marco are two opposites from different worlds who are made for each other.
Anna is a respected professor at MIT, not just defined by her brilliance in finance but also by her fierce spirit beneath her reserved exterior. She is navigating a midlife awakening (crisis is too harsh a word) to transition into the corporate world as she bravely challenges all norms and expectations. It’s impossible not to root for her because she’s a breath of fresh air in a world that can often feel so rigid.
Marco is the sexy, broody blood demon with mafia ties. He’s a savvy, no-nonsense businessman who grapples with his growing feelings for Anna while trying to uphold the responsibilities of his family and his dark empire. His internal battles make him relatable and loveable. You can’t help but feel for him as he teeters on the edge between loyalty to his family and his growing feelings for Anna.
So what exactly sets Dark Salvation apart in this huge genre of paranormal romance? It’s the perfect blend of heart and suspense with a new take on a vampire called a blood demon. The tension between Anna and Marco is palpable and I was happy to see the last part of the story focusing more on the romance. I love that Anna and Marco’s journey is one of discovery and passion at a later age. The whole claiming ritual that Marco held out for all those years is worth the wait.
It’s not all romance though. The action and suspense creates a storyline that keeps you invested. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the plot twisted and my heart broke for Marco.
Supporting characters are important to the story such as Anna’s best friend Jeff who gets her the job of her dreams with the man of her dreams. Marco’s formidable and loving sister, Gina, is crucial in assisting Marco in raising his best friend’s beloved son, Luca, who is becoming too volatile for his own good.
If you love a slow build paranormal romance filled with love, duty, and suspense, give this book a try. I can’t wait to read bad-boy Luca’s story next.
