Clutch (Savage Disciples MC #1) by Drew Elyse

ABOUT THE BOOK

Once a Disciple, forever a Disciple.

Cami was raised around the Savage Disciples MC
until she left to build a life of her own.
It’s fine that she lives with her fiancé’s suffocating passive aggression.
It’s fine that she’s turning to drugs to self-medicate.
It’s all fine…right?

A Disciple will fight like a savage for what he wants.

When Gauge tags along to visit his club brother’s daughter,
he can’t believe the two women he meets:
the fiery daughter of a biker and the puppet with the blank affect.
And yet, they’re both Cami.
Right or wrong, he knows he won’t stop until he sees her burn bright.

When this biker clutches onto a Disciple’s daughter, there is no letting go.

MY REVIEW

I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to dive into another motorcycle club romance from my ever-growing TBR pile. The last few I picked up just didn’t hit that sweet spot. But boy, was I surprised by Cami and Gauge’s story. I found myself swept away in their journey from lust to love, complete with a potential dealbreaker that really escalated the tension in the second half.

Poor Camille is stuck in a loveless relationship with a total control freak. Thank goodness for Gauge, a friend of her dad, who finally tells it to her straight that her life is crap and she finally breaks free from her narcissistic fiancé and moves back home to the Disciples. It’s refreshing to see her reclaim her life and rediscover herself with her biker family.

Gauge is the quintessential big, bad biker who swoops in and steals Cami’s heart with his honest and straightforward advice. Their connection is immediate, flaring from insta-lust to something much deeper as they butt heads and navigate their turbulent emotions. I loved how their relationship unfolded, with plenty of playful banter and stubborn little battles. However, a wrench gets thrown into their budding romance leaving me with all sorts of mixed feelings about how everything would shake out.

Honestly, without giving too much away, the situation they find themselves in is gut-wrenching. You can’t help but empathize with both characters as they face heartache and uncertainty. The author does an exceptional job showcasing the emotional turmoil that comes with love and the sacrifices one may need to make. I found myself tearing up, feeling every bit of their struggles.

But let’s talk about the ending. While it wrapped up nicely with a satisfying happy-ever-after, I can’t deny that I was left wanting more. Everything felt a little too neat considering the messiness of their journey.

Another aspect of the story that didn’t quite sit right with me was the suspense element. It almost felt like an unnecessary distraction that took away from the internal battles Cami and Gauge were experiencing. I wanted to dive deeper into their emotional unrest rather than be sidetracked by external conflicts that didn’t pack the same punch.

All in all, Cami and Gauge’s journey is a captivating guilty pleasure that has its highs and lows, perfect for anyone craving a compelling romance.  I look forward to reading more in the series.
