As their paths cross thanks to Zavier’s uncanny ability to be wherever Celine is they both come to realize there’s something far more nefarious going on in the city they both love. They’ll have to work together to get to the bottom of it, but what happens when Celine realizes the man she’s falling for isn’t only not human, but he’s the same one committing the crimes she’s supposed to solve?

MY REVIEW

Holy fangboner! I just finished a dark comedy that has me grinning from ear to ear. This book is a deliciously wild ride featuring an adorable psychopathic vampire and a seriously grumpy detective.

Zavier “Zav” Lockwood is a 300-year-old vampire who doesn’t just have a “don’t touch my fated mate or I will kill you” vibe; he takes it to the next level! Zav has a dark sense of humor that leads him to serve justice in the most bizarre ways. Picture this: he mutilates some of the worst criminals out there and leaves their bodies arranged in a smiley-face pattern for the police to find. And who happens to investigate these horrendous crimes? None other than his unknowing fated mate, rookie Detective Celine Brennan.

The dynamic between Zav and Celine is pure gold. Zav’s cockiness is balanced by his undeniable charm, and you can’t help but love the lengths he goes to in order to keep her safe. His endearing yet deranged antics are hilarious and utterly captivating. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times, especially during Zav’s fangboner moments. Trust me, you’ll know what I mean when you read it!

Celine is a fantastic character too. She is a steadfast and independent detective trying to navigate the madness that is her life while slowly falling under Zav’s ancient spell. I was so impressed by how Ms. Hayes masterfully developed their relationship; the slow burn kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating each encounter.

I am officially a fan of Aura Hayes’ debut novel! Their characters are intriguing, the plot is suspenseful, and the mix of dark comedy is spot on. And just when you think it can’t get any better, they wrap it all up with a happy ending. If you’re a lover of dark humor coupled with a reverse grumpy/sunshine dynamic, Loving a Vampire is Total Chaos is the read for you. And let’s be real, who can resist a love story that involves an immortal vampire? I can’t wait to dive into Ava’s story next.
