ABOUT THE BOOK
Maya and Jordan can’t keep their eyes off one another. They see each other on their daily runs, exchanging heated glances and lingering smiles as part of their routine. What’s not to notice? Maya with her perfect body and teasing smile. Jordan, a former professional hockey player, with his chiseled muscles and undeniable alpha personality. First comes the hello, then a kiss, followed by an uninhibited desire that sets their mornings on fire.
Jordan normally doesn’t date, but this Boston nurse is a beauty he wants to know inside and out. She’s gorgeous, sassy, and keeps him on his toes. He’s falling fast. She is too. There’s just one problem: Maya loathes the rich. She has her reasons. She also has no idea that Jordan is actually a billionaire CEO who owns the most expensive penthouse in the city, a collection of exotic cars, and half of Boston.
The only way for this grumpy alphahole to hold on to Maya is to keep his secret hidden. Because once the truth is out, everything about this addictive, sensuous, once-in-a-lifetime connection will come crashing down.
MY REVIEW
Billionaire romances aren’t my top preference, but I liked Maya and Jordan’s opposites-attract dynamic.
Maya is a generous, independent, and good-hearted RN who is frugal with her money because of her past. Her mother still struggles to keep a job, so Maya’s nurturing nature bails her mother out constantly to the detriment of Maya’s own physical and financial health. Then she meets a man who saves her life and opens her mind to pleasure and her life to new possibilities.
Jordan Worthington is the man your mother warned you about. He is a retired NHL player, a playboy, and a billionaire executive in his family’s business. He’s cocky, rich, and gave me an icky feeling at first, but his charm and integrity won me over. It’s refreshing to see him become undone by Maya and discover love for the first time in his life.
Of course, there is always a twist, and when Jordan’s secret is revealed, all hell breaks loose. Don’t worry, though, because there is grovelling, steamy make-up sex, and a happily ever after. I especially liked Emily’s brilliant advice to Jordan about fighting for Maya, and watching it click with him as he applies it with thoughtful gestures.
Supporting characters are an essential asset to a good story, and Ms. Mann’s story is filled with them. Emily is the loyal friend we all wish we had, who is supportive, candid, and absolutely on point with her advice. Bettie is the charming patient whose wisdom is wrapped in delightful surprises. Jordan’s brother Gavin and his cute little sidekick, Ben, are like the perfect cheerleading squad for our hero, bringing warmth and humor to the story that just makes everything sparkle.
Marni Mann does an incredible job crafting a story filled with relatable characters and unexpected twists. Jordan isn’t just some cookie-cutter rich guy; he’s genuinely attractive (inside and out), and one of my favorite things about their relationship was how he respected Maya for the hard work she’s put in to get where she is.
