Devious Lies by Parker S. Huntington
ABOUT THE BOOK
I had a plan to escape the friend zone.
Step one: sneak into Reed’s room.
Step two: sleep with him.
But when the lights turned on, it wasn’t familiar blue eyes I saw.
These were dark, angry, and full of demons.
And they belonged to Reed’s much older brother.
Four years later, Nash Prescott is no longer the help’s angry son.
I’m no longer the town’s prized princess.
At twenty-two, I’m broke, in need of a job.
At thirty-two, he’s a billionaire, in need of revenge.
Who cares if my family ruined his?
Who cares if he looks at me with pure loathing?
Who cares if every task he assigns me is designed to torture?
I need the money.
Simple as that.
I’ll suffer his cruelty in silence, knowing there’s one thing he wants more than revenge…
Me.
MY REVIEW
This book is 700+ pages of delicious and captivating slow-burning romance full of revenge, remorse, and so much sexual tension.
Dad still had money—a lot of it—and so did Mother, but I wanted nothing to do with the dirty money that, as far as I was concerned, had become blood money as soon as Reed’s dad and Angus Bedford had died.
Emery Winthrop grew up with money, but when her father’s textile company goes bankrupt, many people who invested are now destitute and her father walked away unscathed. From the nagging guilt of being a Winthrop, Emery changes her name and refuses any money from her mother and father. When she needs a job to survive and pay her bills, her best friend Reed gets her a job at his brother’s hotel undercover. There was no way Nash would hire a Winthrop, so homeless and with little to survive on she finds shelter where she can and takes food as she gets it managing to stay under the wire until Nash finds her and makes her pay for her father’s sins.
Nash Prescott was thrift-shop beauty, threadbare and jaded, the memory of something once beautiful lingering as he looked on the world with war-torn eyes.
Revenge is a dish best served cold and billionaire Nash Prescott is the master! His wealth resulted from the Winthrop Scandal and his plan to ruin Gideon Winthrop and his family for causing his father to work 3 jobs and die of a heart attack starts with Emery Winthrop, Gideon’s daughter and best friend to Nash’s brother, Reed. Is it a coincidence she shows up at the same time the FBI does? Is it true she knew about the embezzling in her father’s company? Why can’t he stop thinking about her?
This book is filled with many wonderful quotes about love, revenge, perfection, life, and words. Emery is smart, quirky, and headstrong and her verbal wars with Nash are memorable. Nash is unrefined and turbulent, and would do anything for his family, and to see him change from a vindictive ass to a man who is determined to fight for the only woman he has ever cared about is a refreshing and heartwrenching sight.
Even though this is such a big book, the pages fly by quickly and the truth about the Winthrop Scandal is worth waiting for. Recommend highly!
