She’s desperate to stop the panic attacks. But the truth won’t set her free…

Jamie Kendal sees life through the bottom of a bottle. After surviving assault and betrayal, she is forced back to her hometown to care for her mother. Not long after her return, she’s plagued by terrifying slivers of memories from the night her twin brother disappeared forever…

Unearthing new evidence, she’s shocked to learn she’d been found wandering in the woods that same night—covered in blood. More than one person from her past hid the haunting truth that’s bubbling to the surface. The deeper she digs into the horrors from her past, the more she fears almost anyone could be a killer, including Jamie herself.

Can Jamie expose what happened that night, or will she join her missing brother?

MY REVIEW

Welcome to my spot on the Buried in My Past Blog Tour hosted by R&R Book Tours. I have discovered yet another new author who had me hooked from the opening line and proceeded to send me on a mind-bending ride of deviant behavior, mental instability, and murder gone wild.

Jamie Kendal is holding on by a thread. Her interesting career in Arlington as a polygraph examiner is doing fine, but her personal life is a train wreck.  Her bastard ex-fiance is stalking her after Jamie caught him in bed with her best friend, her mother is in a coma because of a mysterious accident in her home, and to top it off Jamie has to return to her hometown of Cedar Lake where all her nightmares began.  It was 18 years ago at Kring Camp when her twin brother and his best friend went missing and Jamie was found injured. She can only remember bits and pieces about that time by having terrifying blackouts at inopportune times. And what about the new murders in town? Will the handsome camp leader-turned-local-police-detective and former crush, Drew Turner, be able to protect her, or is she a suspect?

What a gripping and intense read! It is told from several different perspectives which keep the reader guessing who is involved in Jamie’s brother’s disappearance and what actually happened 18 years ago at Kring Camp.

The author does an incredible job developing the tension as Jamie gradually finds out more clues about what happened that tragic night. The twists and turns are freaking shocking and it is safe to say that this reader is Ms. Mackenzie’s newest admirer.  If you like psychological suspense at its best, you will love this fantastic debut novel!

Thank you to Ms. Mackenzie for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

EXCERPT

Every night her mother fell asleep atop a deep, dark secret. A box containing a mystery wrapped in the blood of her twins.

She wasn’t a killer. That’s what she told Drew; that’s what she told herself. But now, sitting on the floor of her mothers’ room, she cradled evidence that suggested otherwise. And she had no memory for an alibi.
