The Price by Kerry Kaya
ABOUT THE BOOK
For most of his life Fletch has looked out for his younger brother Spencer and he will do anything and everything he can to protect him. Together they work for notorious East End gangster Billy King. Across the water in South London is Billy’s rival George Bannerman and the two firms are locked in a bitter turf war.
Amid murder, drug deals, and rival firms, Fletch is harbouring his own secrets and it’s only a matter of time until those secrets are revealed, and when you break the rules you have to pay the price.
MY REVIEW
All Fletch ever wanted to do was to keep his family safe, but his job as second in command of Billy King’s empire isn’t the best way to do that. Especially, after Billy uses Fletch’s brother, Spencer, to help him with a deadly task that insights a war between Billy and his evil enemy George Bannerman. There is a rat in Billy King’s house which will eventually reveal Fletch’s dangerous family secret and the dead bodies pile up.
As a character-driven novel, the brothers’ unbreakable bond is so heartwarming, and seeing Fletch lose his grip on his life choices and the safety of his family is frightening and tragic. Unfortunately, their lives are destined for violence and their secret is the ticket to their unequivocal downfall. The characters are complex and well-developed with a number of despicable and greedy players of both genders.
Overall, this is a dark and gripping crime fiction novel that looks at London’s seedy underbelly from the criminal’s perspective. A unique and captivating read.
Thank you to Ms. Kaya for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
