A Bridge Between Us by K. K. Allen
ABOUT THE BOOK
A Bridge Between Us, an all-new small-town romance full of suspense from USA Today bestselling author K.K. Allen is available now!
I had always known he wasn’t mine to keep, but that didn’t change the way I loved him—quietly, gently, and from afar.
As the seasons changed, the corn stalks grew strong, and the grapevines flourished with hope. But none of it mattered, not when the soil at our feet bound us in a century-old rivalry. We’d never even had a chance.
They said life flashed before your eyes on the way to death, but on that night, after my final scream burst from my throat and my world started to fade to black, I only thought of him. Of his sweet chocolate eyes, his desperately cautious stare, and his silence that carried more weight than gold.
I should have died that night. Instead, I crossed the moonlit bridge and never returned.
I let rivalry win. If only that had been enough to keep us all safe. If only we didn’t have a bridge between us.
This is an ominous Shakespeareanesque suspense thriller that captured me from the very beginning. It’s about the century-old feud between the Cross and the Bell families, a forbidden love, and a cold-blooded killer.
Camila Bell is a free spirit. A force to be reckoned with. A woman who knows what she wants. And she wants Ridge Cross. But their fathers won’t have it.
All Ridge wants is to find his place in life. Then he meets the untamed and fearless Camila. His kryptonite. His fated love. The one he promised he would not leave.
Camila and Ridge’s relationship is passionate and full of heartache. Camila is a refreshingly strong female protagonist who is extremely confident and fiercely loyal. Ridge has a poetic way with words, is a calming presence for the fierce Camilla, and sacrifices their love to save her future. Watching them grow from hopeful teenagers filled with dreams and convictions, to mature and self-confident adults who accomplish so much more is amazing to see. I appreciate that their love is so strong that there is no bitterness and long-drawn-out angst seen in other romance novels.
The supporting characters are a big part of this story. Camila’s mother is key to the lovers’ happiness. Josie is a supportive friend to both Camila and Ridge. And brother and sister, Trip and Raven, are unfortunate to be the pawns and offspring of the arrogant and hated Thomas Bradshaw, right-hand man to Camila’s father.
In the midst of the love story, is a chilling antagonist called “the hunter” who is watching and stalking Camila just waiting for the right moment. A moment that will change her life forever.
This is a fantastic second chance romantic suspense novel that I couldn’t put down and is one of my favorite reads of the year. The twists and turns, secrets, romance, and well-developed characters are a great combination that will draw you in until the shocking end.
Thank you to Ms. Allen for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
