Worth the Weight (Q For Quarantine #1) by Lauren Alsten

ABOUT THE BOOK

Qyra plus Quarantine equals heaping helpings of nothing to do, nowhere to go, and zero dating life — until her long-lost college crush Josh shows up in the checkout lane of her hometown grocery store.

When he learns she just opened her dream catering business, the hot techno whiz-slash-fitness guru offers to help her fix her nightmare of a website.

Menus and meat thermometers aren’t the only things popping up when they both test negative for the nasty pandemic virus and their virtual dating turns IRL. Sizzling sex with a bulked up boytoy is great but keeping her emotions socially distanced is harder than she thought it would be.

Josh could be the real deal, but between his thoughtless “flabby” jabs and his inevitable discovery of her private weight loss journey, will their dinner for two become a dine-and-dash?

MY REVIEW

This is a refreshing and sexy romantic comedy about following your dreams and finding what makes you happy. It’s about loving yourself and not judging others.

Qyra doesn’t mince words and comes from a “long line of feisty”. She is divorced from a cheating asshole, she’s healthy and has lost over 80 lbs, is an avid cycler, she’s an ACF-certified chef and she is running her own catering business. Then in the grocery store during quarantine, she meets Josh, the hot, hard-bodied, himbo from the past who brought her to tears. After he explains the misunderstanding in the backroom of the bar two years ago, the chemistry is still there and they hook up, but can she open up to a fitness trainer about her unhealthy past or will he dump her if she ever spirals off her diet?

I loved this novella that skillfully covers a lot in a small amount of time. The subject matter of obesity and weight loss is something you don’t see much in romance. I was also pleasantly surprised about Josh’s story which I cannot giveaway but is a big part of their relationship. Let’s not forget Qyra’s mom who makes Qyra’s bluntness look mild.

If you enjoy real characters with real subject matter, LOL moments, and some very sensual scenes, give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Alsten for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
