What We Bury (Madison Knight #10) by Carolyn Arnold
ABOUT THE BOOK
She’s dying, and she knows it. If only she can stay alive long enough to leave one last message. As the rain beats against the metal roof, she uses her blood-soaked fingertip to scrawl on the floorboards… The letters GB.
Detective Madison Knight has been house hunting, but a call from her real estate agent has nothing to do with finding the perfect property. She’s found a woman’s body, stabbed multiple times. Madison arrives on scene and is presented with an unknown Jane Doe and two letters written in blood. There’s no murder weapon, and it seems Doe was attacked somewhere else.
As Madison works to find justice for the victim, Madison’s own life is put at risk. What she comes to discover is some people will go to extreme lengths to protect their secrets—even as far as murder. But will learning that lesson come too late for her?

MY REVIEW
Welcome to my stop for The Goddess Fish Promotions Virtual Book Tour for What We Bury by Carolyn Arnold.
This is my first Carolyn Arnold book and though it is book 10 in the series it can be read as a standalone. No easy feat, but well done.
When a body of a woman is found stabbed to death in a shed, Detective Madison Knight and her partner Detective Terry Grant, weed through the usual suspects to find a case full of twists and turns leading to the greatest con. I enjoy the camaraderie between Madison and her partner, Terry. Their familiarity with each other’s bad habits and quirks cannot be overlooked and it is hilarious how Madison’s secrets are revealed from Terry’s persistence.
But Madison is also working on another case on her own time that almost gets her killed. So she has to fess up and tell her frustrated boyfriend and SWAT leader, Troy, and her angry best friend Cynthia, head of the forensic lab, about her war on city corruption and the Russian mob.
Boy, am I a new fan of Detective Madison Knight. She is her own worst enemy. She is rife with insecurity about her relationship with Troy (hence, the whole “lost proposal” thing). She eats candy bars for dinner. And she’s putting herself in danger without asking for help. However, she has exceptional interrogation techniques, faultless gut instincts, as well as a good sense of humor. Indeed, a well-developed character.
Her relationships are a big part of the story as well. Troy is a very patient and understanding man who calls her the very fitting nickname of “Bulldog” to her dislike, and despite her doubts, he loves her completely. Cynthia is a true friend by dropping everything to search for “the ring” and though their friendship is tested during Madison’s investigation, you can’t tear them apart. And of course, as I said before, Terry, her partner has her back at all times.
I recommend this gripping crime thriller with fantastic characters and two intricate mysteries. A great story from beginning to end. Now I have to go back and read the previous books in the series.
Thank you to Ms. Arnold for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
Carolyn Arnold will be awarding a $10 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.
