ABOUT THE BOOK

Everyone hits rock bottom, only the brave escape.

Welcome to 1314 Rattlesnake Road.

A quaint two-bedroom log cabin nestled deep in the woods of the small, southern town of Berry Springs—the perfect hideaway to escape your past.

Tucked inside thick, mahogany walls lay mysterious letters, forgotten and untouched for decades. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame breathtaking views of jagged cliffs, deep valleys, and endless lies. Mature oak trees, tall enough to touch the clouds, carry the whispers of the haunted, of stories untold.

Inside sits Grey Dalton, emotionally battered and bruised, her only wish to pick up the broken pieces of her life. But outside, await two men, one a tattooed cowboy, the other a dashing businessman.

One will steal her heart, the other, her soul.

Rattlesnake Road is a standalone mystery romance about love, loss, hitting rock bottom, and clawing your way to the other side.

Your escape awaits…

MY REVIEW

Grey’s life is all kinds of screwed up. Her soon-to-be ex-husband is a douchebag and her coping mechanism of consuming copious amounts of alcohol has gotten her fired from a lucrative job as a New York magazine editor. May I say her acceptance speech for the Harp Heart Award for Excellence while under the influence is painful and unforgettable. And last but certainly not least her recent personal loss is a gut-wrenching nightmare that no woman should go through.  So Grey packs up what she can, leaves a note asking for a divorce, and heads to a small southern town to start over in a broken-down cabin. Could it get any worse?

My heart broke for Grey and her struggle with alcoholism. She measures her self-worth by the actions of her drunken mother and her dirt-poor beginnings so her bad choices almost get her killed. Enter the calm, thoughtful, annoying, and very sexy mechanic/gardener, Declan Montgomery. Her total opposite. Her conscience. Her lifeline. A man that understands rock bottom and tragic backgrounds.

Their chemistry is electric and their direct and playful wordplay is so uplifting and real.  Grey is vulnerable, but also resilient and tough. It’s good to see her start to turn her life around with the help of her elderly nosey neighbor, Etta, her cousin Cassidy and most importantly, Declan. I have to say Declan is one of my top favorite male characters of all time. His patient and nonjudgmental reactions to Grey’s really bad and desperate choices at the bar and afterward proved to me how wonderful this man is. He’s definitely a keeper. Well done, Ms. McKinney!

In addition to the romance is a creepy back story about a 30-year-old murder of a little girl that has a shocking reveal at the end.

I recommend this superb romantic suspense that is an emotional rollercoaster of heartache, anguish, renewal, and laughter.

Thank you to Ms. McKinney for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
