Saving Mercy (Fatal Truth #1) by Abbie Roads

ABOUT THE BOOK

He’s found her at last…only to lose her to a nightmare.

Cain Killion knows himself to be a damaged man, his only saving grace the extrasensory connection to blood that he uses to catch murderers. His latest case takes a macabre turn when he discovers a familiar and haunting symbol linking the crime to his own horrific past—and only one woman could know what it means.

Mercy Ledger is brave, resilient, beautiful—and in terrible danger. The moment he sees Mercy, Cain knows he’s the one who can save her. He also knows he’s beyond redemption. But the lines between good and evil blur and the only thing clear to Cain and Mercy is that they belong together. Love is the antidote for blood—but is their bond strong enough to overcome the evil that stalks them?

MY REVIEW

Holy cow!!!  I am totally on a roll with completely messed-up individuals. This book is so creepy and dark with hints of the TV series, Prodigal Son, but much better.

Blood did that to him, was a pleasure and a pain. A gift and a curse.

Cain Killion gives a whole new meaning to blood analysis. He assists the FBI by going to murder scenes, covering himself in the victim’s blood, and unexplainedly becomes the killer as he recreates the murder in his head.  If that isn’t f*@ked up, I don’t know what is. You see his father is the infamous and brutal serial killer, Adam Killion, who was caught many years ago when Cain was just a child. From then on Cain was dubbed Killer Killion’s Kid–Triple K– and has been a pariah all his life. But Cain has a deep dark terrifying guilty secret that he would never tell anyone…he enjoys what he does. His other secret is his private obsession with his father’s last victim Mercy Ledger. She survived after Killer Killion murdered her family, and she may have an answer to a symbol found in a recent murder case. But Cain finds out that Mercy is being held against her will at a psychiatric hospital and being stalked by an evil man. So against his own better judgment of staying away from her due to his uncanny resemblance to his murdering father and their tragic connection, he saves her life only to drag her into his nightmarish and disquieting existence.  Will their sanity remain intact?

I was completely and utterly submerged in this dark and disturbing book. Ms. Roads does an excellent job placing the reader into the minds of the victims and the killer.  Cain and Mercy are extremely damaged with horrible pasts as well as being hounded by the media and thrill-seekers for years.  However, their connection and victimization by the Killion Killer are prodigious to their attraction and understanding of what similarities each of them has gone through.  In other words, they are two soulmates feeling they don’t deserve anyone, but are their best selves when they are together.

In addition, the supporting characters are a plus in this book.  From Cain’s devoted adopted father and FBI agent, Mac, to the mysterious Dolan, Mac’s FBI second in command who definitely has a fascinating secret and story of his own.

I highly recommend this romantic suspense for those who love damaged protagonists who are on the verge of going over to the dark side and evil antagonists who deserve all the nastiness they dish out.  I can’t wait to read book 2 which is next on my TBR.

  4. She can’t stand it when people drive slowly in the passing lane. Just saying. That’s major annoying. Right?

  6. She lives in Marion, Ohio with her favorite fellow and two fur babies.
  7. Being a published author is a dream come true for her.
