My Fiance’s Bodyguard by Ivy Wild
ABOUT THE BOOK
I thought the days of fathers selling their daughters were over. Apparently, I thought wrong. Because, in a few short months I’m supposed to marry Johnny Maldonado. His record is squeaky clean, but anyone who’s been to Boston knows who he really is and what he controls.
There’s only one problem: I’m not interested in Johnny. I’m interested in the man charged with his protection.
Maxon Holt. His Bodyguard.
When I ran away, he was the one to find me. He’s not friendly and we don’t get along. But, I find myself drawn to him. Max is cold, dark, and distant. And he’s harboring a secret. One that could get us both killed.
Welcome to my stop on My Fiance’s Bodyguard by Ivy Wild hosted by Social Butterfly PR.
Madelyn is the oldest daughter of a “flour empire” (think money laundering and other things nefarious) and is being sold to the highest bidder by her uncaring jerk of a father. The man she’s being sold to is Italian mob boss Johnny Maldonado. He’s a slimy pervert who is three times her age and has been married four times. So when Madelyn tries to skip town rather than be forced to marry Johnny, the indifferent and very hot Max Holt (Johnny’s bodyguard) is sent to bring her back. As she accepts her fate, she and Max open up about their past, start a relationship and form a mission to take down Johnny once and for all. However, one slip up, and they will be killed.
Max has been working five years to bring Johnny down, but he just can’t make anything stick. Until he meets the flashy pink vision who is Madelyn Dimes. She’s not afraid of him. She’s gutsy and careless, as spoiled princesses go, but she may be the answer to help him avenge his best friend’s death. At first, it sounded like a good idea, but he’s uncharacteristically developed feelings for her, and now he’s put her in danger. Will their plan work, or has he led them to their death?
I always like an enemies to lovers/opposites attract kind of story and Max and Madelyn fit the bill. The spoiled spitfire princess vs. brooding he-man dynamic is fun to watch, and I have to say Max keeps a professional demeanor between them longer than most heroes. In fact, I thought he was a selfish dick to Madelyn a few times until his story slowly started to unfold. May I add that the gorgeous model on the cover (Yum!) is a great likeness to the character which is unfortunately many times not the case. Madelyn is a bit sheltered and naïve, but her gut instincts are good as she dangerously manipulates her fiancé to get the information she needs. I also liked it that she wasn’t a fluffy dimwit like her sister Scarlett and wanted to attend college. The one problem I had with the story is that the author unnecessarily repeats some of the prose for the dual points of view which slows down the story for me.
My favorite supporting characters are Madelyn’s housekeeper, Doris, and Johnny’s housekeeper, Eleanor, who both had Madelyn’s back. I also enjoyed Doris’s friend Phil, who was more like a father to Madelyn in a very short amount of time, than her real father was. This will become obvious at the end when Max asks Phil a very important question.
If you like steamy, romantic suspense with strong, stubborn characters, give this book a try. I hope to read more by Ivy Wild.
Thank you to Ms. Wild for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
