Druid Dreams (The Chronicles of Sloane King #1) by M.F. Adele
ABOUT THE BOOK
I am not a good person.
I don’t cheat or steal, but I do lie a little bit… and participate in the occasional murder… spree.
Life as I know it gets turned upside down when I’m asked to step in and halt the progress of a black market drug tainted with magic. The one little business adventure opens up a whole f*****g Pandora’s Box and brings my ebony tower crashing down around me.
As if life wasn’t complicated enough, I also now have mates. Emphasis on the ssss part. I want to be mad about it, really I do… but they’re so hot, and the temptation to make them all mine is fueling my desire.
With a final mate that I’m not happy about and a stalker on my heels… maybe having several someones at my back isn’t such a bad thing.
Don’t get me twisted, though… I’m Sloane f*****g King, and I’m no damsel in distress.
MY REVIEW
Who needs one man when you can have 6 delicious immortals instead? I chose this book because I enjoyed Ms. Adele’s For the Strange and Surprising which was a science fiction romantic suspense novel. I was also curious how she could pull off such a big undertaking of 7 main characters. It was a bit confusing and frustratingly overwhelming with an unfortunate cliffhanger.
Sloane King is one crazy, badass hybrid with some hellish skills and a huge ego. If that weren’t enough she is fated to be mates with a hot team of rebel men including a missing druid, a cheeky vampire, a broody wolf shifter, a wise mage, a dauntless demon, and a by-the-book fae. Together this mating will give Sloane limitless power which unfortunately, will make her a target for the evildoers to drain her powers to create a dangerous drug that turns magical beings against each other. Can her mates keep her safe or will unknown forces take her down?
I liked that Sloane is the Alpha in her new pack. It’s always good to see a strong female. Her friend Jack, the horse shifter (yeah, that’s a new one) is hilarious and his lover Grim is exactly who his name implies. Cool that! Sloane’s mates have varied personalities that work well with each other. However, I felt there was no time in building their relationships with Sloane hence no real chemistry. I’m also not a big fan of more than two points of view because it just gets confusing and is harder to follow the plot when I’m trying to remember who each of the characters is. The direction of the story is hard to follow especially at the beginning as we are introduced to a miriad of characters and the plot isn’t revealed until much later. Throw in some steamy sex scenes here and there and finally an antagonist with a vendetta and you get all the ingredients for a series with potential.
Overall, I found the idea of this book to be intriguing and unique, but I found the plot needed to be honed a little more.
Thank you to Ms. Adele for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
