ABOUT THE BOOK

EMMY
My fall from grace was one for the books. All it took was his word against mine for everything to topple. Liar. Slut. Snitch. Now, I wear my shame like a scarlet letter pinned to my chest. People say I ruined his life. Except, he’s the one who irrevocably broke me—my heart, my body, my soul…my will to live.

STERLING
Like a little coward, she thinks the span of five states is enough to keep her safe. But I know where she is and I’m going to make her pay. She ruined my best friend’s life. Now…I’m going to ruin her. One by one, I’ll spill her secrets, until she has nowhere left to turn—except to me, her very own big, bad wolf.

MY REVIEW

As I work my way through my endless TBR list I was intrigued by my first LK Farlow novel. From the very first page, I was pulled into a traumatic event that reeled me in and left me dubious about the outcome.

Why, oh why do I pick up college bully romances? Maybe it’s the emotions they invoke in me. That has to count for something, right? Emmy is a rape victim of her deranged sociopathic stepbrother, Rob. When she accused him, he ruined her life in high school by making her look like a liar. Even her nasty ass mother wouldn’t stand by her daughter. Now Emmy is ready to start over in college, but Rob’s best friend, Sterling, is Rob’s solution to getting revenge on Emmy. Sterling is an idiot in my opinion. How can he be so blind to Rob’s nastiness and volatile temper and trust anything he says? He’s even known Emmy since she was a little girl. Couldn’t he have seen the signs? According to Emmy, Sterling was actually nice to her before Rob completely ruined her life. And what is it with Emmy forgiving Sterling so quickly after he shames her in front of her class and traumatizes her all over again? I empathized with her, but I just wanted her to grow more of a backbone and find someone who deserved her.

The characters I truly loved were Emmy’s roommate Stella and Emmy’s friends Gabe and Zach. They all gave her the support and love she deserved by standing up to Sterling and frequently checking on her and showing her what normal relationships are all about.

I have to say the prologue is what drew me into this book, but the story leading up to it just didn’t do it for me. If you are a diehard fan of bully romances, this one may trip your trigger (so to speak). For me? It left me wanting more from the protagonists.
