ABOUT THE BOOK
A man who has everything will do anything to ease the pain of the incredible woman who’s living with an ever-present risk.
My best friend’s twin, Shay Stojanović, is my ultimate gamer dreamgirl come to life. Gorgeous, flirtatious, and popular, she didn’t know I existed.
Until one fateful night, she made this nerd’s every fantasy come true. The next day she blew me up like a frag grenade.
Years later, Shay’s brother and I have built a billion-dollar gaming company. He had the nerve to give his shady sister a coveted executive role. Oh, I won’t make it easy on her—she’ll quit. You’ll see. Everything’s going exactly to plan…
Until we get stranded at the top of a mountain. And I learned the truth. Now I can’t—and won’t—resist her. She has a lot to overcome. And I’m just the man to soothe her hurt.
It’s Shay’s turn for a flirt alert.
MY REVIEW
The story revolves around Shay who is dealing with the aftermath of a long-term relationship that has ended. She moves back home and is also grappling with a medical condition that has been plaguing her for years. At this juncture, she meets Austin again, whom she blew off in high school and is the head of a gaming empire and her twin brother’s business partner. The plot thickens as the two characters navigate their complicated relationship, which starts as resentment and hate and morphs into instant love.
I wanted to like this book because I loved The Hate Date. The story is touted as an enemies-to-lovers trope but it changes pretty quickly. That alone made it hard for me to get into the story, let alone the shallow characters I couldn’t connect with and the unnecessary sex scenes that I ended up skipping just to get to the plot.
One aspect of the book that I particularly appreciated was the disability representation. It was great to see a character with a disability portrayed in a positive light and to see how they navigated the world. It was also interesting to see how their disability affected their relationship with the other characters.
Overall, I would recommend this book to others who are looking for a fun and engaging read. While it may take some time to get into the story, the author does a satisfactory job of developing the characters and making them more relatable. Additionally, the disability representation and effective use of popular tropes make this book a standout in its genre.
Thank you to Ms. Winter for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
