Grace
It wasn’t hard for me to walk away from my family without looking back—the time had come for me to live for myself.
New city. New job.
My new boss? He’s gorgeous.
It’s too bad that handsome face is wasted on such a condescending prick.
He hates me, and the feeling is mutual.
The only reason he may not be the literal devil is because he’s a devoted single dad, making it clear Caine is, in fact, capable of human emotion.
Caine
I’m good at two things:
1. Raising my daughter to be strong and independent.
2. My job.
When my new assistant walks into the office, I become good at ignoring her. She’s sassy. Smart. Beautiful.
Much younger and off-limits for more reasons than I can count.
That doesn’t mean I want her any less.
She hates me—but as each day goes by, it’s harder and harder to remember why I hate her too.
MY REVIEW
This is the eighth installment of the Southern Wedding series and my first Natasha Madison novel. It can be read as a standalone and features a workplace romance between Grace, a young personal assistant, and Caine, her grumpy boss, and a single dad.
From the very beginning, there is tension between Grace and Caine. He doesn’t think she’s capable of handling the job due to her age, but at the same time, he can’t deny his attraction to her. As they navigate their feelings for each other and try to keep their relationship a secret at work, they also have to deal with the reappearance of Caine’s ex and the challenges of being a single parent.
While I enjoyed this book overall, there were a few things that didn’t quite work for me. The push-and-pull dynamic between Grace and Caine, while understandable given their circumstances, felt a bit overdone at times. There were also some miscommunications and unnecessary drama that didn’t add much to the story.
That being said, there were still plenty of moments that I loved. Caine’s relationship with his daughter was heartwarming, and his interactions with his brother Nash added some light-heartedness to the story. Considering Grace thought Caine’s behavior was unprofessional (and it was), one can’t rule out that Grace’s behavior was just as questionable. I liked Grace’s sense of humor, but it was a bit childish at times. The sex was steamy and I appreciated Caine’s control and respect to take it slow though Grace made it pretty difficult.
If you enjoy sweet and spicy romances with an enemies-to-lovers theme, give this book a try.
Thank you to Ms. Madison for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
