MY REVIEW
The first book in the series sets the bar high with a memorable meet greet with Avery James, a commanding and confident elementary school teacher, losing her cool on a biker. Enter Carter Matthews, a former NFL player turned policeman, who steps in to defuse the situation. From there, we’re taken on a rollercoaster of emotions as we learn about Avery’s tragic past and her chaotic life, and watch as Carter becomes a calming and challenging presence in her world.
What made this book special for me is the complexity of its characters. Avery is feisty and reckless, but also fiercely loyal and caring towards her friends, family, and students. Carter is patient and kind, but also has a tragic backstory that he handles with grace. Watching these two characters come together and navigate their own personal demons is truly heartwarming.
If you’re in the market for a romance novel that also packs a punch of suspense and heartache, look no further. This novel is full of complex characters and tackles serious subject matter that is noteworthy for our times. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
