ABOUT THE BOOK
Finding home… And falling in love?
Piper Logan’s career has stalled. After the rising Hollywood stunt rider is shunned for a crew member’s injury, she returns to her family ranch to regroup. When her irritating neighbor, engineer Caleb Masters, helps her figure out what went wrong with the accident, Piper admits they make a great team. But maybe not a lasting one—they’re both planning to leave Montana. So love is definitely not in the script…or is it?
MY REVIEW
My first Shirley Hailstock story is a clean romance with a unique plot.
Piper Logan is a recluse running her family’s ranch in Montana. Her nasty ex-fiancé ruined her career by throwing her to the wolves. I admire her independence, her strong work ethic, and the outstanding way she rides a horse. Her hesitation in getting involved with a man again is understandable and she makes her nosy neighbor work hard for his dessert.
Caleb Masters is an engineer and the annoying neighbor who wheedles his way into Piper’s life one piece of cake at a time. He’s charming, persistent, and patient as he slowly breaks down Piper’s walls by helping her unravel the mystery behind the accident that changed her life path.
It’s an art balancing action and romance and the author’s clever plot combines the excitement of trick riding and the intricate elements that go into planning a Hollywood stunt. The setting of Montana offers a beautiful backdrop for the romance which is slow and unpredictable as two people become friends and fall in love unexpectedly.
Cal’s brother and sister-in-law add depth to the story and character development for Cal’s upbringing. However, it is disappointing there is little about Piper’s family.
This book, filled with compelling characters and an intriguing plot, will resonate with those who have found love in unexpected places.
