Bracing the Storm (Bracing The Storm #1) by J. C. Reed

ABOUT THE BOOK

The guy I just met at the mansion I inherited from a complete stranger?
He’s drop dead gorgeous. Sexy. And rude with a Capital R.
Turns out he’s not the hot gardener as I wrongly assumed. He’s not
only a famous rock star who grew up in the house, he’s also ready to
fight for it. And being both hot-headed and Irish, he’s going to fight
hard and dirty.

I’m not moving out. Full Stop.
But neither is he. So we agree on some simple rules.

We’ll play roommates for a while. What could possibly go wrong?
Living together with an Irish Hothead will surely cause a major storm.
Let’s hope bracing that storm won’t turn into a hurricane.

MY REVIEW

I ate up my first read from J.C. Reed and wow, what a fun story. This book brings you straight into the beautiful Emerald Isle where our quirky Brooklyn heroine Lori battles a grumpy Irish rockstar for a castle. It’s an enemies-to-lovers tale that takes its sweet time unfolding, and well worth the wait.

Told in Lori’s point of view, her unusual one-time meeting with Patrick’s mother leaves her with an inheritance she didn’t expect. As she leaves her tattered remains of a life in Brooklyn and arrives for a new adventure she ends up face-to-face with Patrick, aka the angry Irishman living in the estate. He’s convinced Lori is some sort of fraud who scammed his mother, and the tension between them is electrifying, to say the least. Their banter? Deliciously intense.

Patrick “Paddy the Storm” Walsh, an Irish rockstar is less than thrilled to learn that his mother has left their family estate to a total stranger. This guy has a ton of potential as the brooding, complicated love interest, but we only scratch the surface of his character. He’s a mystery wrapped in moody sarcasm, and I’m seriously craving more from him. I want to delve into his thoughts and feelings, especially as things heat up with Lori.

The charming small-town vibes, the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, and of course, the forced proximity amps up the romance. But not everything was perfect. There were moments that felt like they dragged on a bit, and Lori’s lust for Patrick’s body sometimes overshadowed the emotional connection that was begging to be developed further.

But here’s the kicker: the book ends on a confusing cliffhanger! So be prepared to hold your breath and eagerly await the next installment. Whether you’re a fan of romance, a bit of mystery, or just love a good adventure, Bracing the Storm is the perfect escape. It has relatable characters, sizzling chemistry, and plenty of twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

Thank you to Ms. Reed for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
