Quiet Longing (Quiet Love #2) by L.H. Cosway

ABOUT THE BOOK

When she agreed to spend her last summer before college at her cousins’ house in Ireland, Charli Moretti never expected to meet anyone like Rhys Doyle. He was the first boy to ever make her heart flutter, and though their lives followed different paths after that fateful summer, she always remembered him as her first everything.

Sixteen years later, after a tumultuous divorce from her abusive husband, Charli is returning to Ireland a shell of the woman she once was. Life has tried to break her many times over, and now all she wants is a fresh start and an even keel. She’ll be working as an accountant at her uncle’s hotel, but what she doesn’t know is that Rhys Doyle works there, too. He’s the head of security, in fact, and he’s no longer the teenage boy she once knew.

With the rumours flying around that he and his fiancée just broke off their engagement, Charli decides it’s best to give Rhys his space. She knows personally how hard it can be when a relationship ends. The problem is, she can’t seem to stop running into him, and the more she gets to know the man he’s become the more those old feelings start to return.

MY REVIEW

I’ve come to appreciate second-chance stories, especially when they are filled with so much longing and hope. Rhys and Charli’s story is beautiful and heartbreaking as their lovely summer fling of firsts becomes a future that holds such pain and sorrow.

Rhys’ childhood is riddled with shameful secrets that he keeps close to the vest until a beautiful, confident American blasts into his life. Her arrival is like a breath of fresh air in his tumultuous life. They become friends, confidantes, and lovers in a short time, knowing they will be apart soon enough, making their experience feel even more cherished. However, life rarely unfolds as planned, and time and circumstance pull Rhys and Charli apart, leading them down separate paths filled with unexpected hardships.

After sixteen years, Charli returns to Ireland to start over. Her transformation is notable from a young, confident woman to a woman prone to panic attacks. She’s been through hell and back, and I admire her resilience and determination to rediscover herself. Rhys is a kind and thoughtful man who joined the French Foreign Legion to run from his past and become the man he thought he should be. Rhys is so loving and considerate, and like a fine wine, he only gets better with age.

Rhys and Charli’s connection is electric, igniting familiar feelings that time cannot erase. The bond they share is enhanced by the warmth of supportive friends and family, who add layers to the story, creating a lovely blend of belonging and camaraderie, enriching Rhys and Charli’s journey back to one another.

This memorable story is full of love, grief, healing, and finding strength in each other. It leaves a lasting impression with a beautiful plot and compelling characters. I look forward to reading more of this series.

Thank you to Ms. Cosway for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
