All We Lost Was Everything by Sloan Harlow

ABOUT THE BOOK

When eighteen-year-old River Santos’s house burned down, she lost everything. Her clothes. Her guitar. Her songbook.

Most importantly, she lost her father.

But when someone anonymously donates two million dollars to her GoFundMe, it’s like she’s won the worst sort of lottery. She’s a millionaire, but at what cost?

With every person who comes into the diner where she works, she wonders, “Was it you?” The only person she’s sure didn’t donate the money is her extremely hot—and extremely standoffish—coworker, Logan Evans. Ever since he started at the diner, he’s acted like he hates her. Which is why she’s shocked when he helps her save face in front of her ex…

Their attraction can’t be denied, but when River discovers a long-hidden family secret, she suddenly finds herself questioning everyone in her life. Her dad, who wasn’t as perfect as he seemed. Her chaotic mother, who left without so much as a goodbye at the beginning of her senior year. The anonymous donor, whose intentions may not have been altruistic after all. And most especially Logan, who has dark secrets of his own.

After the fire, River thought she had hit rock bottom. But as it turns out, there’s always more to lose…

MY REVIEW

What would you do if you lost everything? River Santos’ tragic story is a rollercoaster of twists and turns that I never saw coming.

You know how sometimes you can figure out a thriller’s ending well before you hit the halfway point? I’m usually pretty good at that. But this book kept me guessing in all the right ways. Yes, I anticipated some drama, but where things ended up going was nothing like I expected!

Melody was such a compelling character. Her strength and resilience was incredible considering nearly everyone around her is holding a secret. She loved her father dearly and if I were in her shoes, I would want to know what really happened that night. As for her missing mother, that was another shocker I didn’t expect.

Logan’s complex character was shrouded in mystery and I was eager to find out what he was hiding. He truly loved Melody and wanted to protect her.

Ms. Harlow’s characters are so well-written and it was exciting that most of them had some secret to reveal. Their authenticity is refreshing, and their journeys had me invested from the get-go. You feel their highs and lows, and with all the unexpected developments.

If you’re looking for a romantic suspense that’s anything but predictable, I’d highly recommend picking this one up.

Thank you go Ms. Harlow for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
