ABOUT THE BOOK
Happy ever after’s don’t apply to me…
I have six weeks left of my sabbatical in LA before I go home to my family and our business. I’ve spent months traveling, surfing and working on my tan but I get bored easily and I needed more. So that’s what led me to my temporary job at S&M gyms – and Violet West. The most hypnotically beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, whose killer curves and sharp tongue rock my world.
But the clock is ticking and my return ticket is booked. I need to be careful I don’t fall too hard. I need to keep my composure when she temps me to take a leap of faith with her, when she gets me so hot and bothered I end up in the emergency room. When she invites me into her home and convinces me to break my self-inflicted sex-ban… But the biggest risk? When she shows me what it feels like to be really loved, something I know nothing about. And now I don’t want to leave. But I know good things never last… right?
MY REVIEW
My first VH Nicholson novel started slow, but ended on a high note. I don’t normally like instalove stories with the dreaded third act break ups, but this one worked for me by exploring the depth of the characters.
Lincoln is a big sexy Scot and notorious playboy who decides to take a break from his usual one-night stands and his family’s hotel business. What starts as a carefree adventure turns into a whirlwind of feelings when Lincoln meets the incredible Violet West who is a savvy businesswoman and the ultimate ball-breaker. She works wonders on Lincoln, shaping him into a more grounded individual.
From the moment Lincoln and Violet met, it was clear that their chemistry was off the charts. These two certainly know how to bring the sexy fun and playful banter.
One of the standout elements in this story is the profound impact of family, particularly the relationship Lincoln shares with his dad. Major applause to this guy! He raised Lincoln single-handedly after his mother left, and you can truly feel that bond. With Lincoln’s past of abandonment looming over him, there is an unexpected twist that is heartbreaking. It’s dad to the rescue when he encourages Violet to fight for what she wants ending in a happily ever after.
While the book had a bit of a slow spot in the middle, don’t give up on it! The pace picks up again, and trust me, the ride gets super rewarding as you reach the end. It’s all about the journey, after all.
So if you’re looking for a light but meaningful read that tugs at your heartstrings and tickles your funny bone, definitely give this one a shot. It’s a wonderful start to what promises to be an engaging series.
Thank you to Ms. Nicolson for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
